  • Lark and Munns

K, don't get all riled up because I'm not calling for the backup QB.

I was down with my son watching the players come out of the locker room before the game and seeing Munns walk by made me think, damn that guy looks like a QB. I don't know much anything about his abilities.

Do you think there's any possibility the job will be reopened in the spring for Lark and Munns to compete for the starting job next year?

If Heaps continues to average 1 TD per 182 attempts, yes.

Actually, it would be my hope that every position is open to competition during the offseason.

I think a lot of people feel like he could be pretty good there.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Well I thought Bower looked bad ass, too. However, he liked to throw the ball at guys' feet. I also don't know too much about Munns, but Lark looked decent in the spring game.

To be honest, Heaps is looking damn sharp. If he tightens the screws a bit and our guys continue this streak of catching 80% of the passes thrown to them, he's gonna be lights out.

Idiot take which I honestly think summarizes a very large part of our fan base.

Don't bench Heaps and play Lark (or Munns) because it would be prostituting yourself for a couple extra wins at the expense of the program.

OK, so let's say you believe Lark is better than Heaps right now to the point that you win two more games by playing Lark over Heaps. They're both freshman. Heaps has played a heck of a lot more football over the past three years than Lark. Heaps has much more practice reps. If Lark is even close to Heaps right now, it probably means he has twice as much upside.

Your point is good. Just helping with the facts.

The fact that we have not heard a peep about a QB change might be all we need to know regarding Lark and Munns.

This is probably the case. Bummer. Not bummer that Heaps won't get benched, but bummer that we absolutely no other options.

Munns will eventually be a starter at BYU.

                      Just not at quarterback.

I think Munns is too soon off his mission and Lark is in a better though also bad situation with regards to his mission. The fact that neither has transferred tells me that Lark and Munns are relatively close in skill and talent to Heaps.

Munns is totally dedicated to BYU and apparently told coaches that he'd stay at the Y whatever it took.

I think it was less about football for him and more about community and wanting to be at BYU.

Before their missions coaches rated Munns as having greater upside than Lark - that he allegedly was faster in picking up the mental side of the game. But a lot can change in three years.

I've heard from a former BYU QB up where Munns went to HS that Munns only lacked polish but that the lack of polish hurt his accuracy. This guy thought Munns would be an NFL QB because he had a great frame, huge arm, and just needed to be coached up.
