  • Bronco as DC

    What should we expect?

How long? Goat says indefinitely. I'm not so sure. He's reading all these organizational behavior books and he's more Jack Welch than Buddy Ryan right now. Criddle mentioned this morning Bronco wants to delegate to coordinators so he can go home at 8:00 and see his kids. I believe that. I see him hiring full time DC over the off season or at the latest year after next.

What kind of D will he run? Same as we always did?

    What will change? Nothing.

How good will we be? Not much better than now.

    My conspiracy theory:

Like everyone else, Bronco knows that this season will be a transition/rebuilding year. However, as HC, he is obviously more aware of the extent of the potential carnage.

Coincidentally, the micro-manager of all micro managers surreptitiously decides to distance himself from O and D. He starts doing uncharacteristic things, such as stating that he doesn't even attend any of their meetings and dedicating his efforts to coaching special teams (the head coach?). On the surface, it looks like he is learning to delegate, but the real reason is that he wants to create a little buffer between himself and the impending storm.

The season begins and pretty much any win is considered gravy by Bronco. The special teams are doing fairly well, actually. But at 4 straight losses, he needs a scapegoat. He takes over as DC for the season but will be under much less scrutiny now that expectations have been lowered drastically.

It seems to have worked perfectly. The media and fans are impatient, but most of the ire is focused at Hill and Anae. Not Bronco.
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
