It was very supplemental, but funny nontheless. The fundamental issue was "leadership issues." I think he even used two very secular words before promptings that all meant the same thing.

I doubt a lawsuit is coming.

From what I read, it was one of a few of his listed reasons, including "observations." To clarify, he did not use "promptings" as the primary reason. However, he worked it in there and I think artfully so.

Bronco played the presser to boring perfection. When asked about the Hill firing, he including "promptings" in his reasons for firing him. The guy knows his audience.

Criddle also said this morning that Bronco likes to go home by 8 and be with his family but now he will have to stay and work more hours. No wonder BYU can't get over the hump.

this is exactly correct. he can have a family life in the off-season or find a new gig. He is making blood money. It isn't just given to him for free. that is part of the territory when you are coaching.

No-Cho has spoken of times when he and Pete and some of the staff slept at Heritage Hall because it was easier and faster than going home, showering and coming back.

Wanting to have free time is fine. Taking the free time nightly is unacceptable, at least for someone in his occupation. Home by 8? That is crap. He certainly isn't producing this season like a guy that can afford to check out at 8PM.

And if/when Bronco cites players not working hard enough in the offseason to get better, he undermines himself. Bronco's peers certainly aren't home by 8 p.m. on a regular basis, so how can you expect anything in the program to succeed when everyone else is outworking you?

I'm inclined to think that Bronco actually leaves earlier than 8. He had checked out by 6:30 against Nevada and Utah State.

On the other hand I am of the opinion that the defense underachieved more than the offense. I think BYU's defense should be playing better. It is the HC's job to fix things and time will tell if this was a smart move to make.

For me, the worst was Air Force. I don't know all the details about how BYU tried to defend the AFA option, but I do know how it's usually done. And BYU didn't defend it normally. There were so many big plays for AFA where the outside defender (the absolute key for defending the option) was keying on someone that through misdirection or motion prior to the snap pulled him out of the play, unblocked, but unable to get to the runner to make a tackle. And there was no one filling the spot that outside defender had just vacated.

THAT is a scheme problem. And the worst of it - there appeared to be no defensive adjustments at half-time.

(Yeah, I know AFA scored less in the second half, but they also burned a helluva lot of clock and weren't too motivated to continue to score.)

I see your point but the truth of the matter is that BYU is already seen as a white institution. And black students (and outsiders, in general) already have a hard time fitting into the culture. You will find out next year on road trips that pretty much everyone conflates Utah and BYU, as well. Firing Hill won't hurt or help our relationship with black athletes. If the perception ever changes, it is still light years away.

The fact of the matter is that when people hear "Utah," the generally think whites and Mormons and polygamy. Look at this year's draft for the Utah Jazz....everyone jokes that they drafted the white guy AGAIN. Yet Utah has black players on its roster. Utah has an image problem that I don't think can ever really be remedied. It isn't BYU, it is the entire state.

We are seeing this in action already, I guess.

This is true. After thinking about it, I will really, REALLY miss Bronco whenever he leaves. I can't imagine having this much fun with Brandon Doman.
