When I was a senior we played Montclair Prep. MP had an enrollment of 200 students, about 10 of which were legitimate division 1-A studs. Their backfield had Michael Jones and Derek Sparks. Sparks went on to start at WSU for 2 years and Jones was the #1 HS runningback in the nation, accepted a scholarship to USC and then was arrested for raping some girl. I went to school back east and never heard how it turning out for Jones.

Simi High had an enrollment of 2500+ with at least two Division 1A athletes and they beat the snot out of us. I was the free safety and had about 15 sock/shoestring tackles in the first half. Jones knocked the shit out of me all night when we would collide with him with a full head of steam 9 yards past the LOS and then he would drag me for 4-6 more yards before help arrived.

I don't think either Jones or Sparks family could afford Montclair Prep, but I could be wrong.

Hell the public schools in CA recruit too. When I went to HS in Santa Clarita you had open enrollment so you had some kids go to Hart to play football. My sophomore year we had a family move into our ward from Mesa, AZ. They had a hulk of an OT named Ashton Holbrook who went on to play for Ricks. Anyway, he and his dad moved out first and he lived with me so he could go to hell week with me. Anyway, the Hart HS coaches found out about this kid somehow and were calling him that summer to get him to go there.

The private schools though all recruit. Loyola, Mater Dei, Bishop Amat, Notre Dame, Harvard-Westlake, etc. They all get their tuition paid for.

We had several players that even as 12 year olds you knew would be college prospects. The next year we put together a traveling team for Babe Ruth league and won the state title.

The high school baseball coach had a son on our team, and everyone talked about how good our school was going to be in baseball for years to come. Then along came De La Salle. They started recruiting about 5 kids on our team. They offered tuition waivers to come. Three of the kids jumped ship and went to De La Salle. All three ended up with college scholarships (LSU, Boston College, and Chico State) nobody from my highschool ended up with anything higher than NAIA or D-II schollies. So I guess they made the right choice.

Also my freshman year in football we played De La Salle and lost 52-0.
The first thing that came to my mind when she mentioned BG HS was De La Salle. Aren't they also a Catholic HS? They actively recruit all over the region, if not the state. And not unlike Bronco and the BYU, I know many big time recruits also recruit De La Salle.

Yes, it's a Catholic HS. They claim not to recruit, but they certainly draw from a larger area than their Concord base.
