lol...did you read his dad's comments? sounds as if he was hoping X would stay in state...

"It's going to be a challenge for him," said Ifi Su'a-Filo. "They're a program that's rebuilding. For me, I've always thought that if you're going to leave the state of Utah, leave for something better. I'm not sure they're where BYU and Utah are right now. But it's his decision and we support him."

seems like playing time was quite important to X and Manti. They most likely were told they could start, instead of 3rd string?

No doubt. I guess he didn't see BYU's smackdown of UCLA.

Go ahead with your usual snarkiness. But it's clear Utah lost X because Wong wanted the job. Whit wasn't going to hire Wong to get X. On the other hand, if he wouldn't commit to hire Wong how could X go there. Remove Wong from the equation and X is at Utah. Unlike you we have a truly principled coach. Not just one who likes to grandstand about principles.

X is a freak of nature. I sure hope the rumors are true.

Two Pac 10 missionary transfers. Not only do we get two good players, but maybe now Pac schools back off future missionaries a little?

I doubt it. Kids transfer all the time. It is just part of the game. I think BYU is likely to continue to get some transfer kids but these kids are good and enough LDS kids serve missions and finish at Pac-10 schools, or choose not to serve missions, that the Pac will continue to recruit them. In fact with their exposure to the Poly's of Utah and their playing games every 2 or 3 years in SLC my guess is they start going after more LDS kids.

Stupid Utah. Stealing our Poly's then showing them off to the Pac.

Was Robert Anae that much of an issue to X? I recall reading everything from his dad felt spurned by BYU when he was a player to him just wanting to get away from home to the reason X did not like BYU was due to Anae. The experts had him heading to BYU then Utah then UCLA. Obviously Junkie nailed it but who can I trust?!

Question about the Riley Nelson Rule. I understand that it only applies to kids who enrolled before their mission. But about the contact...

The rule states that a coach cannot contact a missionary who has enrolled unless he gets permission from the coach at the school the kid committed to, unless the kid has been home for a year from his mish.

So, if a kid tries to contact BYU, what is BYU's response. Do they tell the kid to go ask his coach for permission or would BYU contact the coach first? Seems like the coach wouldn't give permission unless the player already told him he wanted to transfer. All the rule does is force the kid to burn his bridges before he learns whether he'll have a schollie at the new school, right? But there's probably some way to be pretty sure about whether BYU has a schollie for you without any real "contact", right?

How many good kids did they get that might go on missions and didn't. Ngata comes to mind. So doe Havili. I think there was an O-lineman that went and came back to Stanford. I think it is still worth the risk to them.
