Leach knows how to win in shitty locations. I am guessing the Shockers will go after him next.

Sadly, you forgot to subsequently explain your clear post.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

We're undefeated since 1986. Blow me.

I think that when you hire a guy like Leach, you're getting him "as-is". What that means for UNM is that they're hiring a guy now with a "history" of strange behavior and coaching methods. Whether you agree or disagree with how the Adam James situation was handled, it still will hang over him and as such you'll see a heightened sensitivity regarding his methods. The minute something happens, he'll get pounced on. "Same ole Mike Leach" Craig James will say on Sportscenter.

Second chance coaches have a much shorter leesh and so I think the school will put up with less in the way of eccentric behavior and coaching methods.

If he's winning, he's a genius and a great motivator...if he's losing or has a mediocre squad, the scrutiny comes hard and fast. See Majerus, Rick.

If hiring Leach represents a potential "bite", then having Locksley around is the equivalent of Jaws on crack.
I don't think this means they don't go after him. In a MWC that is void of BYU and Utah and that is top-heavy with TCU, Boise and Air Force (Nevada too I suppose) there is room for another school to jump into that top 3-4, and if you think a guy like Leach can get you there, you absolutely hire him, you just have to know that you're getting all of him and not just the part that made Texas Tech relevant.
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

This is a great pickup for New Mexico. They should immediately turn into a 7-5 team with potential for being a non-BCS darling in some years.
