Funny thing about this thread is if Heaps plays the majority of the game on Saturday and wins, or even if Nelson somehow plays the majority and wins, BYU is 2-1 and once again the fanbase will be discussing BCS possibilities. Where we stand right now, I'm not going to say the season is a loss, but "winning now" seems less important now that we are 0-1 in conference play. While there is no shame in sharing a conference championship, I cannot see TCU, Utah and Air Force each losing twice to let BYU be outright champs. Having said that I think now is the time to take Heaps lumps in non Conf and steam roll the MWC bottom feeders and hopefully be able to steal a game against TCU or Utah. Heaps potential, ImO, gives us the best chance to do that.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI don't think one can really argue with this point. My guess is the compelling reason to sacrifice this is to maximize the chance to win now.
I also doubt that the indecision goes forward to next year, or if it does it is probably an indicator that messrs Heaps ain't gonna be all that a bag of chips.

I think that's the biggest issue with all of this mess. We need one QB so the OL can get their blocks down (where will Jake be v where will Riley be?), and so the receivers can get into rythm with the QB. So much of the qb/receiver dynamic is "knowing" where the guy is going to be on a certain play against a certain defensive look. It's a tough thing to throw a ball into the middle of a defense because a receiver is supposed to be there based on a read that he's supposed to make the same as the QB.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostBut the offensive chemistry would probably be better off quicker instead of wondering who will play, what type of offense they will run, etc.
Once a qb becomes confident that the receiver will actually be there and will actually make the catch, it becomes a lot easier for him to make that blind-faith throw. And when that confidence is built, that pass becomes almost a 100% certain completion (BYU QB to BYU TE on an option route. Unless the defense takes great strides to beat it, or unless the ILB/SS are remarkably good cover-guys, it's a gimme). Until then, that pass - the heart and soul of a successful BYU passing attack - doesn't get thrown, because the QB doesn't want to look like an ass if the TE runs the wrong route and he throws the ball straight to the strong safety. The fact that there have been so few completions to the TEs so far this year is a strong indictment that the QBs lack of reps is hurting BYU. That TE throw is really the key to BYU's offense.
And that says nothing about the dynamic between qb/receiver that has to do with one qb throwing rockets that spin one way, and the other qb chucking up wobbly ducks that spin the other way. Those are reasonably difficult adjustments to make in the middle of a game. The receivers would catch more of either guy's passes if they saw more of either guy's passes and got used to catching them...
