  • A serious question about Bronco:

Are BYU higher-ups forcing Bronco to remove his hat while on camera?

For the second time since the season started my wife asked me while watching KSL Sports Beat why Bronco isn’t wearing a hat. She is very concerned that his freedom of expression is being stifled. She was particularly concerned when she specifically noticed that in some of the interviews he is sporting atrocious hat-hair, which would lead one to believe that some BYU PR Gestapo is there on site regulating Broncos headwear.

BYU fans on this board please help me to get to the bottom of Hat-gate.

When was the last time you saw any other GA wearing a hat on camera? I don't think this is anything specifically forced on Bronco as opposed to his contemporaries.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

How often do you wear a hat with a suit?

But I have seen him wearing hats in interviews in years past. Didn't he renegotiate his contract in the off-season? Maybe that included setting him apart as well.

Now it's not just you worried about BYU related issues. Your wife is too! That is one empathetic family you have there, wally. Congrats.

The LDS church is rather strict about what is or isn't an appropriate hat.

Upon further review, I am convinced that Bronco is probably being persecuted by the dress and grooming Nazis at BYU, via irrelevant extrapolation of classroom standards.

I cursory Google search only yielded BYU-Idaho dress and grooming standards for 2008-2009, but I am sure they are synonymous with those of BYU-Provo.

                        http://www.byui.edu/Catalog/2008-200...0Standards.pdf

From the document (note the bolded):
                        Dress and Grooming for Men

                        Classroom Attire and Appearance:

                        Appropriate
Dress shirts, shirts with collars, and dressy sport shirts
Jeans that are neat and clean
Ankle length or longer slacks or pants
Sports coats, blazers, ties, and Sweaters
                        Dressy sweatshirts

                        Inappropriate
                        Beards (no 5 o’clock shadow)
                        Bib overalls (all styles)
                        Caps or hats
Earrings and all other body piercing
                        Grubby attire
Hair: no ponytails or pigtails, braids, designs, carvings, complete
shaving, or extreme styles or unnatural color or tipping
                        Headbands or bandannas
Patched, faded, frayed, torn, or tight, formfi tting clothing
                        Shorts of any length
                        Sweat suits or PE-type clothing
Suggestive or vulgar wording or pictures on apparel
                        Tank tops
                        Flip fl ops
Furthermore, I personally feel that by forcing Bronco to remove his hat the dress code enforcers may be violating their own "grubby attire" clause.

I decided to ask Bronco about this. Here is his breif response.

"I don't think that at any point, I think you could say that at the beginning, it was difficult to judge, that if you'd asked me to make that decision whether or not I thought it was relevant to to the interview or to my appearance, that if Tom, or any administrator, that is to say someone affiliated with BYU had, at any time, asked me to not wear anything on my head while speaking as a representative of the University and all that it represents I think the my answer might be different today than it would have been 3 months ago although it's difficult to say what type of response I might have gotten resulting in an execution of the core principles that we have tried to demonstrate here at BYU...Are there any Paraguayans here?"

                              I KNEW IT!!!

We need to start a grass roots initiative to liberate Bronco's headspace from the authoritarian control of the honor code office.
