A couple of thoughts:
1. The LBs look good because the DL fills gaps like a Soviet brigade in WW2. Or something. However, the DL gets no pressure. Even in blitzes, Utah had a tough time getting pressure. The best pass rusher on the team thus far is Joe Kruger. Just look for the guy that has a seven yard stride and likes to bull rush. All he can do is bull rush, but, uh, dayum he can bull rush.
2. Utah will continue to stuff the run. Both safeties are hellacious hitters, and the aforementioned Soviets up front eat running lanes like pieces of crap for breakfast. I think there's still room to run outside on Utah, and they haven't faced a good O Line yet, but I don't think they'll get real gashed by anybody.
3. I think the pass D will continue to be the weak spot. Blechen hits like a freaking big horned sheep, but he can't cover in man yet. On passing downs, Blechen was playing the 1 deep, and Tap Tap was manning up with the three nickel corners. Neither of the safeties is Bob Johnson in pass coverage. Thankfully, however, they both can find the correct angle on an RB at least once per half. Anyway, Burton absolutely shuts down one side of the field. I feel bad for the corner on the other side. He's going to get more balls coming his way than PaloAltoCougar at a pride parade, and so far the guys there have been seemingly pleased to allow completions. Combined with the inability to get much pressure we saw today, passing teams could have a modicum of fun against the Mighty Utes. We'll see.
4. For some reason, the in-game experience reminds me more and more of the movie Major League. No, that is not a good thing.
5. Latu Heimuli makes my nipples hard.
6. I don't have anything personal against Cain. I like him. He threw the ball downfield several times this afternoon with much aplomb or something. I just think Utah's offense is better with Wynn. Team Jordan, here.
7. I think, in three years, we will miss woodshed beatdowns like this one in conference. When the down weeks are ASU or Washington, I think there will be significant stretches when we'll look back to UNLV with fondness. It's going to be a hoot to adjust to the significant upgrade to the bottom level of our future conference. However, it won't be without periods of intestinal discomfort and verbal gymnastics.
