Lightning.

Football and lightning doesn't mix. This one was just last night:

At least two people were struck by lightning shortly after 8 p.m. Friday in Orange County. It happened at a football game at Wekiva High School, where the Mustangs were hosting the Apopka Blue Darters.

Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the stadium in Apopka Friday evening. A fast-moving storm poured rain and lightning over the area. School officials had asked fans to leave the stands before the lightning strike.

That's awful. My BIL texted me and asked why they idiots were staying in the stands when the officials forced the players to leave the field.

Also the Blue Darters? That's pretty awesome.

A staple of Nick Holt defense at Washington continues to be guys running free in the secondary. If Syracuse had a QB this would be turning into a route.

Alabama dominated Penn St. Trent Richardson is an incredible back, and that young defense is so fast and opportunistic.

I'm watching halftime of Stanford-UCLA. Rece Davis, Mark May, and Lou Holthz are doing the highlights.

Why in the hell does Rece think he's Chris Berman? Just comment on the damn highlights. We don't need your shtick.

Any guesses what Boise State will be ranked this next week? I think they will land around #10.

Virginia Tech's loss makes Boise State look like small potatoes

You half expect the USA Today coaches on Sunday to move Alabama to platinum level No. 1 and drop Boise State to "others receiving a free ride."

Nothing can apparently save Boise State now, even if Virginia Tech rallies to double-digit victories.

After Virginia Tech/Boise State's combined defeat to James Madison, the champion of the SEC, Big 12 or Big Ten can now afford three or four losses and stay ahead of the Broncos.

Wins that stood out most:

1. Kansas 28, Georgia Tech 25. Great reminder of the resiliency of college kids, and that FCS teams can play some ball. Some suggested if KU couldn't beat New Mexico State in two weeks, it might not win a game. Huge win for Turner Gill.

2. Oklahoma 47, FSU 17: Another reminder that what you see in Week 1 (a la KU) isn't an indictment for what the rest of the season contains.

3. Oregon 48, Tennessee 13: I thought the Vols could cover in this game, based on recent history of playing tough in Knoxville, but when USC was flying high, they went into SEC country twice and drilled their opponents. Oregon did no different, and rightly belongs in the national title conversation.
