There is an exchange in Searching for Bobby Fischer when Josh shows mercy upon his opponent:

Josh: I'm offering you a draw.

kid: Draw? You've got to be kidding

Josh: You've lost. You just don't know it.

kid: I've lost? Look at the board.

    Josh: I have.

    Something like that.

You can't take away scoreboard no matter how hard you try.

Exactly. Which is why BYU has dominated for the past 40 years.

So you are saying BYU is the queen?

I thought he was conceding. Silly me.

Did I not acknowledge that BYU leads 26-14 over the last 40?

It's already been stated the difficulties Nebraska will have in scheduling BYU. In order to be "worth it" from Nebraska's viewpoint, more revenue will have to be garnered via a guaranteed payout to Nebraska from the pockets of ABC/ESPN that will exceed the value of a home game in Memorial Stadium - an amount that is substantial because Memorial Stadium sells out even when Chattanooga comes to town. Maybe the pockets of ABC/ESPN are that deep but I have my doubts. Nebraska does have an opening in 2016 though.

I'll also add that when Nebraska does schedule an OOC game, they do so with an eye towards national exposure and recruiting. So a game against Fresno St. or Southern Miss. is considered since Nebraska recruits those areas plus those schools are 2-1 deals. More prestigious programs like Washington, UCLA, and Miami are scheduled home/home to garner national interest and help with Nebraska recruiting in those areas. That's why Nebraska scheduled California when Holmoe was coach, because Nebraska recuits California heavily and wanted the exposure.

So what does BYU offer in regard to Nebraska's recruiting footprint? Not much. Making in-roads to LDS prep players??? Almost all LDS/Utah players that Nebraska signs are players who have a profile more suited to U. of Utah than BYU. Consequently, Nebraska would be better served to schedule Utah than BYU if it wanted to make stronger in-roads in Utah.

Tom Osborne also has had a strong friendship with Bobby Bowden. Back in the late 1970s Bowden sought Osborne's help with Florida St. scheduling back when FSU was an indpendent. Nebraska and Tom Osborne were glad to help in the form of scheduling 4 Nebraska-FSU games in the early/mid 1980s...but all 4 were played in Lincoln. That's what friendship can get you in the high revenue world of college football.

As much as I would like to see BYU-Nebraska, there's no reason for Nebraska to schedule it considering their own self interest in terms of revenue and recruiting. Unless it happens in 2016 or BYU accepts a 2-for-1 offer and I've heard that BYU has turned that offer down.

Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't know shit about college football.
                        That' interesting.

I've also heard another historical view which says that college football wasn't important until around 1972 and hit it's pinnacle in 1994, with a small blip in 1996. Since that time, while popular, it hasn't been the same. There are also reports that the forward pass wasn't a part of the game until it was popoularized by a small colloquial school in the West around the same time tha football started to gain popularity.

I think Nebraska in Denver is pretty dang near neutral - yes it's a 3-4 hour drive for their fan base and a 7-8 hour drive for our fan base, but BYU has a satellite core of fans in Colorado who will get there and Denver is a simple weekend trip from a lot of areas of the West.

Syracuse at the Meadowlands - 3-4 hour drive for The Orange base and a flight for the Cougar base. But metro NYC isn't the backyard for Syracuse and (a) there are clusters of BYU fans in Boston, NYC and metro DC who will get there - and I think plenty more who will make a weekend trip to NYC out of it.

Allegedly Ohio St in TX - that's one truly neutral site if, in fact, it happens.

Penn St with a neutral in DC - again their base can drive while ours has to fly, but it's far enough from the PSU base that it's a genuine trek.

Of all the alleged scenarios I've heard only Wisconsin in Chicago gives me any pause, but even that isn't a big deal.

For me the kicker is that all of these games are being played in destination cities, big stage cities where there are reasons to go there other than the game and where BYU will show up for the novelty of playing a neutral site game in a different place....that doesn't happen very often and I think it has potential to become a signature BYU thing.
I know BYU travelled like gang-busters to play OU in Jerry World, but how will BYU fans travel if you have one or more of these games every year? You know what Saint LaVelle said about BYU fans...

Utah fans are just becoming aware of it.

I wouldn't expect CU fans to be any further ahead of the curve.

Great you won 19 out of 20 games. You dominated a 20 year period. That bought you a lot of room over the next 20.

In the last 18, things have been tilted in favor of the Utes.
