  • Is NetBuffs the main CU message board? I checked out that place to get a vibe for what they are saying about this rivalry. There wasn't much, if anything, by way of excitement to be paired with Utah. Most of the posts were pining for Nebraska or wishing that SC could become their rival in the P12 South.

Im sure Ute fans have been checking out the message boards. What have you sensed from Colorado fans? Are they pumped about the Utah rivalry? Or resigned to be paired as new members of the same conference?

    • I'm sure CU fans are still smarting from back to back losses that finished part 1 of the rivalry.

The ones that are still alive and not stricken with dementia, anyways.

The Ute psyche is unique in that regard. The other day, Portland Ute tried to correct me when I noted that BYU had been dominating the rivalry for 40 years. He responded that even 20 years would be a stretch. I guess he forgot that LEdwards showed up 40 years ago and since that time BYU has basically won the majority of those games, including a stretch of 19-2 or something like that. I informed him of such but he went radio silent, which means that he was forced to agree with me.

Point being, Utah fans do not have a very solid grasp on how time works. So I don't doubt that in their minds, a matchup that has not been played for 50 years is probably still a heated rivalry.

I think you're right, they do have unique views on time. Pre-1960s football equals a fiery rivalry and 2004-2010 is an eternity of success.

In order to fire up their respective players, hopefully each team can bring in some of the 70+ year old dudes who were the last guys to play in this heated rivalry.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                • The CU-UU BB rivalry is what I look forward to. I think it will pick up where the Wyoming-TCU BB rivalry left off, now that TCU is leaving the confefence.

BTW, serious, non-trolling question: You guys seem to believe that Nebraska very much wants a game with BYU. Why would Nebraska want to play the Cougars? TV money?

All I know is that Tom Holmoe and Tom Osborne are friends, and that they have discussed the possibility off and on for several years. It certainly isn't a new development that has come because of independence, though maybe recent changes finally make it worth it for Nebraska.
