BYU athletics largely pay for themselves. Mens Soccer, lacrosse, rugby that operate as club sports may be called extramural now don’t get university funding. Do they get any spectators? Players pay fees and rent buses I think. May get some money from donations. Sports that don’t get much attendance may not pay for themselves. But football and basketball at BYU bring in money.
Days of paying $10.00 or less for tickets are in the past. Gate Receipts. Concession contracts not sure what percentage they get, conference revenue, on site advertising, broadcast rights, parking, sale of merchandise, hs rentals more than pay athletic fees.
Scholarships, Travel expenses, officials, video equipment is expensive. BYU could still make profit without donations.
I don’t think Ricks or BYUH ever made profit from there athletics. Many schools lose money. But even ISU gets plenty of local business donor support. A neighbor of mine who took abode in TyroneWeavers old abdode went to a small college in Iowa to play football. Didn’t play sr year of hoops to go to camps. Didn’t get a whole lot of playing time first two years. Don’t know if his college career is done now or not.
I watched some of his games online. Looked at box score. There were more people at his rural Idaho High School games than at the college. Ricks, C of I and other small schools have more attendance than he got in College. But even that college gets some local business donations I’m sure.
