    BYU Quarterbacks' Weekend

It sounds kind of cool. The weekend of the Washington game, all of the big-time cougar QB's will be in town. The festivities will include a golf outing, a dinner, and an auction. McMahon is going to be there.

I'm curious if anyone on CUF (71?) will be involved in any of the non-game festivities. Sounds like a cool weekend.

The fact that Jimmy Mac will be there is awesome. I am really looking forward to that game.

I think I posted this last year but I golfed 18 with Ty Detmer at Thanksgiving Pt. I practically worshiped Ty when I was a teenager so it was a cool experience. But, of all the past BYU QBs I think McMahon would be the most enjoyable to golf with.

They're coming together for one purpose: to raise $1 million to endow four quarterback scholarships, which each cost $250,000 per year.

Why do they need to raise 1mm when they can just ask BYU71 for it?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

i read that too. i think that's a misquote... i can see $25K/ year w/ housing, etc., but $250K has got to be way off the mark.

or, we could just wheel our 2 BCS trophies around the field.

The funny part about this? Gifford Nielsen originally envisioned this as a fund raising club affiliated with BYU. You could be a member of the quarterbacks club just like you can be a member of the Cougar Club. The former All-Americans got together and put a non-profit plan on the table to BYU. BYU agreed to everything and was going to put it forward at the beginning of this season then dropped a bombshell. The non-profit would have to have a bylaw provision placing an AD or assistant AD on the board and that AD or assistant AD would have total veto power over the club's decisions. Basically, BYU insisted that they have the right to babysit these men. After that, they made the club officially unaffiliated with BYU because they couldn't get key QBs to participate under BYU's stipulation.

On a related note, BYU's Athletic Department effort to endow scholarships is one of the best philanthropic ideas ever. Knowing who "your" player is and having NCAA approved contact with that player is an amazing way to raise money for the program.
