  • Misery and Death and Everything Depressing: ECU @ BYU

So, just how bad is it?

This game, in all likelihood, decides if we can even pass the threshold of bowl eligibility, a shockingly low bar to clear given the hopes we had at the beginning of the year (and one that we very well might not clear, if something doesn’t change).

Thoughts and prayers to our Nebraska friends. Is this what it feels like?

You are probably right. Boise has started to put it back together and Stanford has 2 straight wins over ASU and ND. ECU just beat 5-1 UCF last night by 20+ points. If the BYU team from last night shows up Friday, there is no bowl game.

Talk to me in 15 years and three more failed coaches, the last of which is a school legend having captained the team to a national championship and was tbe hottest head coaching prospect available when returning home to be head coach.

Sadly (and I mean this), Nebraska's future is Iowa. They think it's Oklahoma, but the changing landscape makes that impossible. But if they can get used to the idea of loading up on lineman and TEs and occassionally get a guy out of Texas who can throw the ball on play action 15 times a game, they can be bowl eligible annually.

Will it be trick or treat from the Cougars tonight? I wonder how long tackling school runs.

My expectations could not be lower.

Same. And my guess is there are a bunch of empty seats.

Lol. This isn't me being pessimistic. This is me looking at what ECU is good at and what BYU is bad at. Did you know that ECU is 7th in the nation in 3rd down conversion? Did you know that BYU is like 118 out of 130 in 3rd down defense? That aren't great for each other.

Funny side note....the mental health person at my school has this sign up in his office: Optimism.....it is probably going to get worse.

                    Lol.

Cougar D is surrendering 31.6 points per game (109th) and 422.6 total yards per game (106th)
Out of 131 FBS teams, BYU ranks 103rd in total defense; 128th in third-down defense; 127th in first downs allowed; and 124th in tackles for loss per game
BYU is allowing 5.8 yards per play (95th in FBS) while ranking 114th in Success Rate Allowed, 121st in Expected Points Added per Play, and most importantly, 130th in Finishing Drives Allowed (only Arizona is worse).
BYU sits 123rd in Defensive Line Yards, 113th in Stuff Rate, 107th in Expected Points Added per Rush and 122nd in terms of a run defense grade, per Pro Football Focus

                      That is downright pathetic.

Not sure if this should go in this thread, the fire tuiaki one or the fire kalini thread.

Unusual playcalling. We’ve apparently decided to try to grind it out in the ground. Mixed results. But hey, Jake making a FG is cool.

Am I crazy for thinking BYU’s hurry up strategy is, umm, less than successful?
