Josh Marquardt. I assume he is Dan and Michael's brother. Dan was a good noseguard and Michael ended up being a solid player for ASU, unfortunately. Maybe he can develop into a solid dlineman himself.

I heard Hans Olsen mention David Foote as someone to watch out for at tailback after he watched practice. I've heard the name but know nothing about the kid. He's not listed on any depth charts except the blurb about him being a combo RB/FB type. Hans also mentioned, and wasn't alone in mentioning, DeQuan Everett. Besides this kid's facebook page all I know is that he more than passes the eye test.

Any opinions by you "insiders" would be more than welcome (by me at least) as I've been swamped this month and haven't had the time I usually do to immerse myself in everything Cougar. TIA (CB is not an option - self removal as it stings the nostrils)

A couple of things that intrigue me about the updated roster, a few of the walk-ons and some omissions:

Ezekial Ansah. The 6-5 250 sprinter from Ghana has me excited. I know he has no football experience, but you think even minimal training could turn this guy into a contributer on special teams.

I wouldn't get too excited about the sprinter. If he's from Ghana with no prior exposure to football, there will be MAJOR learning curves.

I played rugby in HS with a Tongan originally from NZ. He was an amazing rugby player, great cuts while running the rugby ball, and the football coaches thought he had a great frame and speed for a RB in football. He was a servicable RB and nothing more. His rugby instincts didn't translate to FB instincts.

If I were on the coaching staff at BYU I wouldn't invest an excessive amount time in him.

Everett had great offers in HS, didn't look like he would qualify out of JC for this year, BYU got on him when he qualified. He is a surprising get with good speed and good hips. I think he could push his way in at field corner and free up one of our starters at corner to transition to safety.

How do the safeties playing opposite Rich look so far? Seems like getting one of our corners over there may be a good idea.

He also said he is less and impressed by Kyle Van Noy. He said he quits when going against the 1's and 2's and doesn't go hard. Says Van Noy won't hustle and the coaches are not pleased with him.

From my understanding he had two sacks (not in pads so the D has the advantage) yesterday and both came against the 3rd string tackle.

Bronco even called him out yesterday saying it was not really that impressive since he was going up against walk-ons. He said he expects him to get sacks against walk-ons and then said "What has he done against Matt Reynolds? How about Braden Brown?"

Bronco even called him out yesterday saying it was not really that impressive since he was going up against walk-ons. He said he expects him to get sacks against walk-ons and then said "What has he done against Matt Reynolds? How about Braden Brown?"

It will be interesting to see how Van Noy turns out. If he stays with the program and gets on board he will likely get a chance to earn a living playing football, but if he doesn't grow up he will likely leave the program before he is a junior. I just see no middle ground for the kid.

Jorgensen raved about Foote as well. I'm not sure what he was raving about, because Jorgensen didn't explain at all, just left it at, "Foote looked very impressive. Very impressive. He's going to contribute. He looked good."
