USC/Kiffin Disaster Thread

Because there is so much going on at SC and with Lane Kiffin that is just so "keystone coppish", i thought i would start an official thread...

Here is the latest, which seems like it is heading the way of litigation.

Kiffin didn't follow protocol and poached a coach from the Tennessee Titans. Should be interesting to see if that lawsuit actually gets filed. It seems like USC is being led right now by a football coach who has no respect from anyone, and waning (or maybe cautious) support from his AD.

Kiffen is a lame duck coach, imo. He is going to be given just enough rope to hang himself by the new AD. I give him less than 2 years.

Lawsuit's been filed, it appears. I am sure Pat Haden is delighted. Kiffin does look like trouble. I wonder how Haden will manage him?

I think they'll keep Kiffin through the sanctions, They are going to be in such a scholarship bind for the next 4 years between the penalty and transfers. I read last week that in 2 years they could possibly only have 52 scholarship players, no coach is going to want that job, USC or not.

If you remember in December of 2000 before Carroll took the job coaches were pulling their name out of consideration for the USC job before they were even mentioned, as if being even lightly associated with the job was career poison. I think they will struggle similarly to find a coach after Kiffin's 3-4 years and will need to find a long shot hire that works like Carroll again.

I was listening to Cowherd for a minute while driving to Utah last week and he was going on and on about how USC was clean, how they have removed anything that had any association to scandal, you couldn't find anyone on campus that had even met Reggie Bush.

I really wanted to call and ask about the head football coach.

pretty much. That team is so deep that with even the couple of player defections they still have the best talent top to bottom in the Pac10.

I forgot to post the link to the news about the filing of the Titans' lawsuit against USC and other Lane Kiffin news.

USC is just a compliance problem waiting to happen. So much money, so many wealthy boosters, so many celebrities, all very difficult (impossible) to control.

I really think Mike Garrett was a huge part of the problem. Here's what he said in response to the NCAA sanctions last month:

I read between the lines and there was nothing but a lot of envy, and they wish they all were Trojans. As I told my staff, I said, 'You know, I feel invigorated by all this stuff ... with the penalty we got today I know we're bigger than life.

Wow. And that is typical Garrett. Pat Haden is going to be a different kind of AD. He is as wealthy as most of the big donors, which means (a) he can speak their language and he's hard for them to push around, and (b) he doesn't need the USC job and doesn't have to fear being fired. So I hope he helps the Trojans out. I am skeptical, though -- the corrupting influences around USC will always be there.

IMO the blame should be on the AD for this one. Shouldn't he be aware of Kiffin's movements, who he's talking to, and whether Kiffin is following the appropriate protocols?
