Timetable. Nebraska will be leaving the Big 12 after this season. Colorado might exit with the Cornhuskers or remain one more season before going to the Pac-10.
Liquidated damages. The exit payment from Nebraska and Colorado to the league has been estimated at $35 million to $40 million. Five schools – Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri – had pledged their portion to Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M to ensure at least $20 million annually to those three schools from the league. UT and OU have said they don't intend to collect. But the issue is still not settled. Beebe hopes a special meeting or teleconference of athletic directors next month might bring clarity.
With $35M to $40M they should have plenty of money to attract BYU and other big fish to the new Big 12 long before they have to think about a new contract (especially given that UT and OU have promised their money back to the Big 12).

I'm sure it's wonderful being on the outside looking in and finding this quite humorous. Trust me, we feel the same way when we see the train wreck of a season of another conference shifting team in this state when they had pretty unrealistic aspirations entering the year. It's nice thinking highly of our team, and the best possible outcome, but reality can often hurt more than we like it to.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
