I don’t think my company employs any Ute fans. Utes really don’t exist in Houston. I mean, there are some here and there but I bet there are as many Nevada Wolfpack fans or Wyoming cowboy fans as there are Ute fans. Unfortunately I can’t gloat at work. But there are a number of BYU fans so we at least celebrated together this morning.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

What is wrong with you? Wasted opportunity.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI've been in my current job 11 years now. So never celebrated a BYU victory. Today I ran across the 3 biggest ute fans at work and said nothing to them."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Yeah - the two Ute fans that have been in the various offices I've worked in the last few years either don't care about sports or prefer BYU. So pretty much the only smack I've had to endure during the streak has been online.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI don’t think my company employs any Ute fans. There used to be a Ute alum in my ward with whom I was paired as a home teacher. When we were both called to the nursery, we would typically talk college football and/or basketball for pretty much the duration of the class. We didn't really communicate outside of our callings.
He called me during the second half of the 2008 game (in which Max Hall threw a bazillion interceptions) claiming not to have seen the game yet and asking me how it was going. I said a few times that the game wasn't over yet and when he wouldn't shut up, I hung up the phone. He also called and/or texted me during the 4th quarter of the 2011 game (in which Heaps threw the ball backwards into the endzone) asking how that game was going. I texted back a picture of the scoreboard since I was in attendance."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

That was awesome. Kyle Whittingham can stick it in his eye. He'll heap praise on Kalani because of their personal relationship, but always has some backhanded shit to say about BYU. Fuck that guy. That is one of the things I really liked about Bronco -- he never hid his contempt for that ass wipe."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

I was listening to a pre-game interview with KWhit. The guy doing the interview mentioned that Kalani told him that he always cheers for Utah when they are not playing BYU. The interview asked Kyle if he does the same in reverse. He stammered for a minute and then gave some stupid response about "Well, I am happy for Kalani when he wins". A-hole.Originally posted by Commando View PostThat was awesome. Kyle Whittingham can stick it in his eye. There's a certain element of playing to your fans - and I get that.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

But if reports are true that KW doesn't like the vitriol in the rivalry, and in particular that there was some incident that happened between his family in the stands and fans - you'd think he'd want to play both side. They're a rival - we want to beat them more than any other team we play. And - they are our family. Many families have had a player from their family on opposite sides of the rivalry - we want to beat them. But because they are family, we hope they do well against everyone else.
He could even get away with wanting conference peers to win against BYU and at least it makes sense from a logic perspective.
But he says he doesn't like the vitriol, and then goes ahead and contributes to it. Dude can be pretty petty.

I mean, I don't feel any differently about Utah, so I can't get too upset if that's how he feels about BYU. Except for the back-stabbing Judas treachery element, of course.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I've enjoyed the meltdown from the Utah fans at work. Fire this person, the refs were terrible, it's all the QBs fault, blah blah blah. The nasty side effect of dehumanizing and refusing to acknowledge the worth of your rival is the existential crisis you have when you lose to a good team.

I enjoy listening to the Utes whine/complain, but I never rub it in or talk smack when BYU wins. I simply treat them with the quiet disdain they deserve. A dude at work told me he hates me even more as a BYU fan because I don't run my mouth when the Cougars win.Originally posted by USUC View PostI've enjoyed the meltdown from the Utah fans at work. He is a BYU graduate. He played football at BYU. He is also a professional. Coaches typically behave with more dignity and class than that.Originally posted by All-American View Post
