Agree 100%. I think I've heard a 75% vote is required to boot someone. I doubt anyone has the guts to being it up. Wyoming has no business being in the conference.

Just thinking out loud here. Someone mentioned in the World Cup thread about how in European leagues the bottom team gets booted down a division and the top team in the lower division gets promoted. Perhaps a similar arrangement could be met with the MWC/WAC. Over time the bottom feeders would go to the WAC and be more competitive there and the stronger WAC programs could be promoted to the MWC, which ideally would be an AQ conference.

W/L record: 1/3 (look at last 20 years heavier weighted by last 8 years)
other?: strategic importance as relates to geographic area (ie Vegas), recruiting (ie California/Texas), etc.

I've actually been bringing this up once every couple years for a long time.

Super conference with best 16 teams available in the west (even include Gonzaga or a couple other BB only schools)

Divide them into league A and league B with separate revenue distribution.

Rank them according to a set of rules: attendance, TV ratings, W/L record, etc. Use a 5 year average or something and then rank teams into the two leagues. Each year rerank them accoring to the formula, relegating or moving up.

Here's the cool part

take the same 16 and divide them A and B with a different split for BB and distribute BB TV and NCAA money separately,

so Boise State would be A in football and B in basketball. UNLV would be B in football, A in basketball.

We hate the 'pokes for so many reasons. One thing they love to do at home games vs. BYU is to urinate into containers (cups, balloons, etc) and then throw them at Mormon women and children. It's horrible.

I don't understand what the MWC's strategy is. For the league to be the best league possible, adding BSU was a good thing. Losing Utah was a bad thing. Ultimately, the exchange is a wash for football purposes. Far and away though, the best thing the MWC could do would be to drop a school. An 8 team league consisting of the current MWC minus the team with the lowest average ranking during the BCS qualifying period would be much stronger than the MWC would have been if they had held onto Utah or not picked up BSU. Since that is so obviously the case, why isn't that the primary plan?

The problem with an 8-team league is that it forces you to schedule 5 non-conference games. In the MWC, that means a FCS team every year (and sometimes two), or guarantee/body-bag games that will result in a loss almost every time. Neither scenario does much to improve the strength of the league, IMO.

That's so short term. The BCS could change AQ qualification criteria anytime. The BCS could explode and a playoff replace it at anytime.

The criteria for how the Big 10 evaluates its schools is very close to how the MWC should evaluate.

BYU's lost decade in Football:

It is tough putting BYU here at #3 as the Cougars have finished very strong under HC Mendenhall recently. However, BYU did have 5 seasons from 2000-06 with 6 or more losses. While the Cougars are tied with Utah with the most titles (3) and have more conference wins than any other school, they do not have any BCS appearances and Top 10 finishes like TCU and Utah.

It always kills me that BYU fans are so hateful toward Wyoming. I think they're projecting. It also reflects their congenital blindness to a historical narrative not skewed to their peculiar world view. Wyoming has a fine football tradition. Indeed, but for a disastrous tactical blunder by Wyoming's coach in 1996 BYU's greatest season ever would today be just another ten win season ending in heartach. There is also matter of the Lloyd Eaton and the black 14; Wyoming fans must look at BYU ingrates and think that no "good deed" (I use the term advisedly here) goes unpunished.

I don't hate Wyoming. Well...I did hate them for a little while back in 1999 when BYU rolled into Laramie ranked and got kicked around in a snow storm.

But most of the time I haven't hated Wyoming.

I had a HS teacher who played BBall at BYU back in the 60's when the Black 14 stuff was going on. He has vivid memories of playing in Laramie, having stuff rain down on the court, and Paul James broadcasting from under a table describing the scene as the players were rushed back into the locker room.

Some how I remember him saying that there was even one moltov cocktail thrown, but I could be remembering wrong.

Of course - I haven't had stuff thrown at me. If I had, maybe I could learn to hate them more.
