So the Texas HS kids are waiting to see if aTm sucks in the SEC? And if it is too hard to play in the SEC, they will probably just stay in state?

Think of what Mizzou will be missing.

It is all about potential exposure. Say, for example, a recruit has two offers. One is to a team that seems to be at the bottom of the Pac-whatever every year and maybe makes it to the LV bowl now and then to play the best of whatever is left of the MWC (think Boise St) to only lose. The other is to a team that gets 7-9 wins in the Big 12, gets to play against teams like OU and UT, has its own network that shows all its games and can be viewed by 60M+ viewers world wide or by using an iPhone/iPad app, and seems to make it to a bowl every year. Which offer do you think the recruit will take? Yes, the Big 12 team, of course.

*Of course, the two teams are hypothetical and may not represent actual teams.

      • The big loser in the b12 saga...aTm.

The Aggies should have waited, taken part in equal rev share, remained at home with traditional rivals, and moved forward with its own network if it wanted one.

instead, it eschewed all of that for a minor pay raise.

Really, the news is best for fans of college basketball. Missouri will stay in the Big 12, preserving its traditional (if often one-sided) hoops rivalry with Kansas. That's a nice little bonus. More important is the fact that Kansas and the rest of the potential former Big 12 north cast-offs -- Iowa State, Baylor, etc. -- won't find themselves desperately grasping for a conference bid that makes little to no geographic, academic or athletic sense. Melding the Big East to the Big 12, or vice versa, would have been a mess. If the Big 12 couldn't come to agreement on TV revenue, it would also have been the two leagues' last, best shot at maintaining big-boy status. That prospect now seems entirely dimmed.

The only obvious loser in this scenario? Texas A&M. You know how they say patience is a virtue? Right. Apparently, it's just as true in conference realignment.

If the HS coaches are not onboard then aTm will have trouble recruiting. The coaches have a lot of influence on where these recruits go, IMO.
I've had about enough of this Texas tradition...and I'm a Texan. Look, Texas had their own conference in the SWC where they didn't have to play a conference road game out of Texas unless it was against Arkansas. The SWC didn't work. In the Big 12 this season, only 3 conference games are played in Texas for a Texas team - the other six are outside the state.

I get that HS coaches want to see their kids play and rub shoulders with the Longhorn and Aggie staffs. But these coaches have got to get over their Texas centric attitude. Is it such a tragedy if a Texas high school player accepts an offer from Stanford? I know the player's family would most likely be very happy at an opportunity to study and play for Stanford even if they could not travel to many games. Same goes to Texas A&M in the SEC and Nebraska in the Big Ten. And there are good arguments that can be made that playing for Texas A&M or Nebraska might be in the player's best interest.

Our son has no problem playing for Nebraska (even after last Saturday). Send one of your recruiters his way.

Honestly, as a Utah guy I don't really care what happens with BYU. Stay independent. Go to the B12. Whatever. I'm perfectly content with our P12 membership. IOW, I have no dog in this fight, other than curiousity.

However, I can't allow this charge to go unchallenged.

During the time both Texas and Arkansas were both members of the SEC (1915 - 1991), Texas had 25 titles, 20 outright. Arkansas had 13 titles, 7 outright. The last 30 years, from 1961 - 1991, Texas had 13 titles, 10 outright. Arkansas had 8 titles, 4 outright. The last 20 years (1971 - 1991), Texas had 7, 6 outright. Arkansas had 4, 2 outright.

I guess I don't see that as on par with Texas. They were the 3rd most successful team in the conference, so perhaps thats where you're coming from? You could also argue that they had a nice presence in the SWC, but have almost no presence in the SEC. Still, they weren't on par with Texas in the SWC.

Now, if you want to talk basketball, Arkansas was the best in the SWC. Baseball? -- Texas owned everybody and then some.

It is obvious that the Huskers need help at DE. Perhaps if Josh Williams (Jr back-up DE from Denton Ryan) made more of an impact, the Huskers would go back to north Texas for help. But the reality is that Nebraska will have a small class this year (12-14). And they already have a verbal from a DE from Ohio. However, they only have 7 commits and it's getting late in the recruiting cycle. Wish I had stronger ties to the Nebraska staff - that all changed when Solich and staff were shown the door.

The phrase "on-par" is a loose defination. Was Arkansas better than Texas? No. But I don't think Arkansas was always a "second fiddle" to Texas in the SWC. Arkansas was roughly equivalent to Texas in the 1960s and 1980s. Texas had a better decade in the 1970s.

If Arkansas wasn't "on-par" with Texas the Razorbacks were not too many strokes behind. I am curious about who was the second most successful team in the SWC if Arkansas comes in third. Perhaps you looked at pre-1960 data in the era of leather helmets and when only BYU71 was alive.

Yes. I think the full board meeting starts at four central.

                      • Do we really expect a full decision after this meeting? Or will it be a "we give our president full rights to do what he feels best for conference alignment"?

If they do that, Missouri stays. I think he is the one trying to stay.

Have no idea what Missouri is about to announce. But I have been told that Sunday's call among Big 12 presidents "did not go well."
                              Here we go.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
