LSU and Alabama aren't any easier opponents than Texas and Oklahoma. Or hasn't Aggy been paying attention?
Because there's a lack of trust between Texas A&M and UT. Texas can flee to the PAC-12 any time it wants and bring Tech, OU, and Okie St. with them. The Aggies don't want to play in the PAC-12. So the Aggies took a preemptive strike against the Longhorns. Aggies are also hoping that playing an SEC schedule will attrack more of the top Texas talent to play in College Station. At current talent levels, the Aggies know they are below Florida, Alabama, and LSU (just as they are below UT and OU) - but are optimistic they can compete with the top SEC schools if they sign more of the talent that typically plays for UT and OU.

Nebraska made a similar calculation. Ever since Mack Brown and Bob Stoops brought UT and OU to the top of college football, Nebraska had difficulty signing comparable talent. Couple that with an improved Missouri and Nebraska had difficulty keeping up. Enter Big Ten expansion and Nebraska has a chance to change the rules of the game. The Cornhuskers will have greater difficulty signing top Texas talent but they were not consistently doing that anyway. Now they have a better shot at Chicago and midwest talent while still recruiting the west coast, Florida, and Texas.

Time will tell how smart or dumb Texas A&M and Nebraska are in switching conferences. But I find it interesting that the fan bases of both schools are overwhelming behind the decisions of the school to switch conferences. Perhaps they actually know something. I find it ironic that BYU alums would label the Aggies as "dumb" when Texas A&M is the higher ranked academic institution.

Proof that BYU in the Big 12 is a done deal. Utah Valley is going to be Big 12 country. Look for a Salt Lick and Whataburger coming soon.

Ike’s first day of business will be Saturday, Oct. 1. The opening coincides with LDS General Conference, so Ike’s will offer half-price ice cream to women from 6 to 8 p.m. Men in white shirts and ties will get the discount from 8 to 10 p.m. (You don’t have to be Mormon to get the discount.)
the legality of this is suspect.

I laugh at the idea that A&M thinks they are going to get better Texas recruiting out of this. Let's say that in the past, UT was getting 70% of the top-flight Texas talent and A&M was getting 30% (I don't know how close those numbers are, but it's my SWAG, and I realize it leaves out OU and others). Now that A&M opens the Texas floodgates to LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, et al, how do they think they're going to clear the 30% they've been getting?

aTm has always had talent, they just suck at selecting coaches. Fran was a disaster and whoever was before him sucked as well. Their current coach (Mike Sherman) has made them respectable but I doubt he wins any division titles in the SEC.

            • OU/UT's rise had nothing to do w/ UNL's fall.

It had everything to do w/ UNL's inability to recruit partial qualifiers in the Big 12. Boise State has simply picked up where UNL left off in 1997. UNL will do fine in the Big 10. And by that I mean Iowa style fine. No more quick romps thru the Norte or old Big 2/Little 6 to get the one game playoff w/ OU/UT. Now ya'll have to earn it. Good luck recruiting all that Chicago talent ya'll are in line for after Notre Dame/tOSU/UofM/Ill/Wisky/Iowa. Works well for the Gophers.

Right now the 12 teams in the SEC are getting something just over $17M for their tier 1 and 2 TV contracts. Starting in 2012 the SEC will have 13 teams requiring a share. I read that SEC was expecting a 5% bump in revenue by adding aTm but that figure is looking closer to 3% now. This may mean that each SEC team may get around $16.5M each. Note that aTm in the Big 12 was to get something around $18M or more with their uneven share of the Big 12 revenue. If the Big 12 goes to an even revenue share for tier 1 and 2 then each team would get around $15M each (assuming a 10 team conference). Having to pay $40M to get a $1.5M or even $2M bump in annual revenue doesn't seem like a smart plan.
Mizzou plays this card and things go nuclear for KU. Honestly, we'll be wanting $40 million in small bills outta the Slavers. And to make a point, we'll probably go all in w/ Baylor/Ken Starr's devious scheme to make Slive cough up some cash, too. And if that means another $10 million in legal fees to get it then that means there are gonna be a few law firms around KC/Dallas making a crapload of money. Mizzou is gonna get raped over this. They know it. Let's see if they've got the guts to do it. I doubt it.

R.C. Slocum sucked? All he did was win 72 percent of his games. No other coach since Dana X. Bible won more frequently.

A&M's issue is that it has a highly inflated view of itself.

UT is a money making machine. UT has brought money by the truckload into the old Big 8. Since the Big 12 began, OU has built a football palace on campus, UNL has built and built and built, Mizzou has made Ferrett Field close to respectable, KU has a top 10 football training facility. Hell, even KSuck has built a couple extra Morton Buildings around the Hole in the Ground and parked a couple extra double wides out there for the film crews. The only school in the Big 12 that couldn't make money were the CU Buffs who are now leaning on the Yutes to pay their bills. I don't understand the angst w/ the Whorns. They are who they are. And, honestly, they still get their arsed kicked by the Gooners in football and the Jayhawks in MBB.

Play the game w/ the Whorns. Do what KU is doing by cashing a $5 million check from the LHN and using the LHN's production to feed into the Jayhawk Network. Quit theorizing about some theoretical advantage the Whorns may or may not have at some yet undetermined point in the future and just concentrate on doing business w/ em.

How many brethern of the priesthood are going to be ordering tiramisu ice cream with their fellow brethern around? This picture had to be intentional from the Trib. Somewhere, P-Stack is laughing.

                          • Baylor 247 is reporting BYU to Big 12 is done deal and will be announced Saturday. Just hitting Twitter like crazy now. It's been out for a day now and Uncle Ted probably already posted it. The guys on OB don't think much of it because no news has ever been broken out of Baylor.

The Upset Blog is also saying now that BYU has agreed in principle with the Big 12.

We’re even hearing some crazy things late this afternoon from a KC area radio host who says Kansas will move to the ACC, if Missouri leaves, but we’re not hearing this from anyone else at this time.
