With how things appear to be going down, my possible explanations for BYU's current position are:
1. Tom Holmoe has done a masterful job and has assurances from the Big 12 that BYU will be invited once Missouri decides what to do. They will either be invited as #10 in the event that Missouri departs, or as 11/12 with Louisville if Missouri stays.
2. Our best chance was to come on as #10 with the Missouri situation still unsettled. When TV rights issues bogged down talks, the Big 12 decided to go with TCU instead. Now the Big 12 will stand at 10 for now if Mizzou stays and replace them with Louisville if they leave.
3. BYU was never a serious candidate for the Big 12 and talks never got past the exploratory stage.
In spite of SU's insistence, 3 seems the least likely to me at this point. Who knows how long we'll have to wait for Missouri to move before we know our fate.
I know you were all eagerly awaiting another breakdown on this, so there you go.
