    I don't know Brandon, so I have no idea if he would pull a stunt like this. It would be a huge gamble. All I know is none of the Utah media had any information today about BYU to the Big 12. Hans Olson said he has been beating down doors trying to get information, and he can't get any. He also doesn't think there is any to get. Having said that, I hope it's real.

      If there was no information to get, why wouldn't Hans sources tell him such? That makes no sense...

        You guys are way ahead of yourselves. Here's how it works:

        1) Beebe announces that the Big 12-2 is considering expansion (the "Groundswell" starts);

        2) Numerous posters on CB, Cuf and Utefans claim to have had discussions with insiders who say BYU to the B 12-2 is a done deal;

        3) Out of the blue somebody says BYU to the B 12-2 will be announced on an exact date;

        4) More rumors of done deal; BYU and an odd team out in the SEC (probably Arkansas); many posters on CB start to say that BYU is the most desired team and Arkansas is an afterthought;

        5) As the date approaches, approximately one week before, Chip Brown runs an article that the Big 12-2 is going to invite half the SEC including Florida, Alabama and Georgia to join the B12-2; at the same time Tennesee announces that it is considering an offer to join the Big 10, and Florida says that if Tennessee goes the SEC is toast;

        6) BYU is not mentioned in the rumors, and at first you get a sinking feeling; then you think, "hey wait a minute, this cockamayme half the SEC to the B 12-2 will never happen..." you get a good feeling that the more fluidity and disruption the better for BYU; Beebe is going to have to do something, and the SEC will hang together.

        You know the rest.

          It isn't going to happen because BYU has much bigger fish to fry.

          Making college sports clean again

          Stanford and Notre Dame could take the lead in establishing a national conference of first-rate academic institutions that offer athletic scholarships only to true student athletes, as defined, largely, by an iron-clad commitment to graduate with their classmates in four years. An invitation to join this conference could be extended to other private institutions with both high academic standards and proud athletic traditions — such as Northwestern, Duke, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Brigham Young (which could substitute a suitable variation on the four-year graduation policy to accommodate Mormon missions). The three United States service academies might also be asked to join.

          The 12th member of this conference, I suggest, should be my alma mater, USC, where I was on the track team in the early 1960s and on the faculty for more than two decades. In the last dozen years, USC's academic reputation has improved markedly, largely because of policies adopted under its soon-to-retire president, Steven Sample. Unfortunately, as a result of the current NCAA sanctions imposed on the university, Sample finds his excellent record sullied at the end of his term. But as the new president, Max Nikias, prepares to take office, he is well-positioned to turn the current crisis into an opportunity to create an athletic program worthy of the university's emerging academic status.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

          For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

          Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

            Maybe they have. It's also totally possible that there is information and BYU is keeping it quiet until there is something substantial. Also, I doubt Holmoe would be doing any negotiating. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've never thought he had any authority. He seems like a "yes" man to me. Hopefully Samuelson sent him to say "yes!".

                Nice kudos to BYU, but the addition of USC as an example of a haven for true
                student-athletes is just bizarre.

                    Gurney just tweeted that Holmoe's family insists he didn't fly to Dallas. I'm not going to get sucked into these rumors anymore until some smoke comes from the Big 12.

                      You two don't get it, do you? He's looking for schools like ND, Duke, and BYU to help USC choose a better path, to bring USC along. The dude's a real visionary; nothing at all like Larry "show me the money" Scott.

                      Also, could you please quit throwing cold water on reports of BYU going to a Super Academic Conference?

                        The guy is LDS. Get a clue. Southern California is lousy with them.

                              Aaron Benton is just a nobody who reads TBS. He changed his twitter name tonight, so that's why it disappeared.
