  • Well if you or pellegrino grew up in Maryland and coached lacrosse I might listen but just by your comments I can tell you don't know about the Maryland market.

    • I don't know about the Terps and Baltimore, but it's true no one in NYC cares about Rutgers. In fact few in NJ seem to care about them. You know who cares about Rutgers? Rutgers Alumni.

So you think what; that Maryland brings Baltimore? Does it bring DC? All we know now is that you think I'm an idiot (get in line) and that coaching lacrosse would give me more credibility.
        PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Maryland does bring Baltimore no question. They play football games in Baltimore. Maryland is the college team in the DC market as well. The counties surrounding DC care about the Terps as you head south into Virginia it changes. DC obviously has portion of the population that is transient doesn't care about the Terps. The move out of the ACC has been phenomenal for Maryland.

You are correct in this, but let's just talk about sports coverage on a local level. Sure, the Terps get their fair share, but it pales in comparison to pro sports coverage. The Nationals, Orioles, Redskins, Ravens, Wizards, and even the Capitals get more coverage than the Terps do. As far as flags flown and shirts worn, you'll see all sorts of Marylandesque gear/flags, but people buy those and wear them not because they're UMD alumni (which not many in Bmore/DC are) but because they represent the state (remember the prominent role the state flag plays in UMD uniforms/etc.). Most people in Baltimore and DC generally don't care much about the Terps. Sports talk radio doesn't dedicate much more than a few token hours a month to their teams. Sure, they broadcast their games and they set aside time during each season to broadcast a weekly coaches show (which is usually only about 30 minutes) but you never hear local guys talk much about them in the offseason and callers rarely bring them up either.

That said, UMD brings the two markets simply because of the archaic way that cable channels are bundled. There is enough interest to force local carriers to provide the B10 network, which rakes in oodles and oodles of cash.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

                              • I am in DC regularly for meetings with one of our main partners. They are located a few blocks away from Farragut Square. The office is populated with support for the Ravens and the Racist Redskins. Given that DC attracts people from all over the east, you get a wide variety of college allegiances but I will say that the terps receive a lot of love....the only wrinkle I have noticed that hasn't been raised here is that the interest seems to be for hoops (understandably). I don't recall having conversations about terps football with any of these people. in the spirit of full disclosure I do not coach LAX
