Am I a bad person if all I care about with this expansion stuff is that if BYU is left out in the cold so is Utah? I honestly haven't been following any of this so I have no idea if that is a likely scenario or not.

No. Utah's a major competitor for recruits, fans, etc in the LDS/Utah sphere. Utah moving up while we get left out is a huge blow. -
