I was referring to the Vegas Bowl. It was nowhere near sold out when I went to watch BYU-AZ.

I'm guessing that the share from a BCS bowl would help the 5th place PAC 10 team feel better about playing in Vegas.

Absolutely. While the irony of a 1st MWC BYU vs 5th PAC10 Utah would be the ONLY positive, it certainly isn't a a big one.

Sure. I went with my FIL. I think BYU should ask that I not attend anymore. The only game that they have won that I was attending was UNLV last year.

The silver, tinged-with-platinum lining for me is that I won't have to read any more unsubstantiated rumors about a pending PAC-10 invite. Of course, if BYU goes Big-12, I expect the PAC-10 rumors to be revived a couple of years down the road but in the form of the Big-12 expanding to 16 teams and Utah's chances for an invite so maybe there is no bright side after all.

READ MY LIPS: BYU will NEVER be in the Pac 10. Not unless it experiences a mutation into something completely different. It's about a school's place in the cosmos, of which football is a dark little corner.

Sorry. Allow me to rephrase for better clarity:

In the off chance that they're in the PAC 10 and we're in the Big XII the rivalry would take on whole new dimensions - the stakes would get bigger as an annual bellwether.

Except I would expect a Colorado-Utah rivalry to get very hot and nasty if they were in the same conference. There is a lot of pent up tension between Salt Lake and Denver already. Do you remember the Woody Paige screed against Salt Lake during the Winter Olympics? The potential interest in and implications of that rivalry should interest the Pac 10. See, e.g., Oregon-Washington (except Utes would be more calmly self-assured than those loud and obnoxious Husky hating Ducks).

Mostly because both of those schools have zero history with any current PAC school. Nobody cares about either one and there is no rivalry inherent amongst the fanbases. Colorado and Utah will no real choice but to saddle up and invent a rivalry.

That is perhaps the only negative about when BYU goes to the Big 12. The Cougars will have no specific history with many of the programs but will have to deal with the constant bullseye on their backs, esp after having won at the BLUE RIVER SHOOTouT and having traditionally dominated Texas.

Exactly, because BYU is so universally disliked.

Texas is drooling for payback after decades of domination at the hands of BYU.
