don't know but I doubt it. the guy doesn't have deep pockets and he was found guilty in the criminal trial. Since he is already going to go to jail and given that he doesn't have a bunch of cash, there may be little point in a civil suit.

some of our actual litigators here might have a more qualified opinion on that, though. mine is an uneducated guess.

The article on ESPN said she would not file a civil suit. That makes me believe he hasn't made any money off this. That makes me happy.

How have so many people seen the pictures (video?)? Is the website(s) that is showing this outside the US, or is it legal to show something once it has been "released" on the internet, even without the subject's permission? I'm sure many of the celebrities who have their pictures on the National Enquirer or TMZ would prefer they were never shown, does it have to involve nudity or the fact it was taken in what Ms. Andrews assumed was private make a difference? I know nothing of the legalities of these areas, but am intrigued.

Not to make light of this situation but all of these suggestions of what should have happened to this guy remind me of the "Conflict Resolution" episode of The Office.

Thank goodness is was put out early that the sites that had the video were filled with virus's. I might have been tempted and think I would have avoided going there anyway, but knowing they were filled with virus's helped prevent me from doing something I know I shouldn't have.

How was he able to get a hidden camera inside of her hotel room? Was it an inside job? I haven't heard anything about the Hilton being held liable. But somehow the stalker knew (in advance?) precisely which room she would be checked in to, and somehow secured himself access.

Not sure how he was able to always book next door (good question) but I read that while she was out of the room, he would remove the peepholes somehow using a file, reverse them, and then use a cell phone cam to film the next morning or that evening. He never had to be in the room or hide any camera. However, you would think someone would have seen some guy holding a cell phone up to a door peephole.

This is total cloak and dagger speculation, but I wonder if a discreet $20 to housekeeping would have allowed him access to "his" room because he "forgot" his key. Several years ago we were staying at a nice hotel that was targeted by thieves....the thieves would loiter on the floor while housekeeping would enter to clean the room. In the middle of cleaning, the thieves would simply walk in and pretend that it was their room. The maids never say anything or challenge the guests, so it was a fairly easy way to gain access. This guy could have also done that. Once the maids leave, he is free to file away the peep hole or whatnot.

Pretty creepy stuff.

Peepholes are actually very easy to remove from the outside. A good pair of pliers will usually allow it (you grab the rim of the peephole with the pliers and pull it towards the outside to create friction with the inside surface and then turn the peephole piece on the outside with the pliers. The peephole is made of two pieces that screw together.) No bribe is needed.

That's what all the uproar was about. Apparently this guy made a habit of following gameday around the country, and in each city he would call the nicer hotels and ask if the gameday crew was staying, and try to get a room. Apparently several of the national chains have no policy on the matter (well, they do now), so some of them would actually answer the question. And in this instance, in Nashville, not only did they tell him that the Gameday crew was staying at the hotel, but when he asked if he could have the room next to Erin Andrews, they said yes.

No. My understadning is that he replaced the standard one with a lens that was reversed, giving a wide angle view into her room. He did this to her and others more than once. ANd then he would hold his video camera up to the peephole from the outside to get a shot into the room.

It was decidedly low tech. I don't think it was a hole in the wall. But I could be wrong.

We simply unscrewed the lens and reversed it, so the part that used to face outdoors was now facing indoors. You don't really notice because you rarely examine the lens when you walk through your front door.

Right but you had access to both sides of the door. My undersdtadning is that he had some adapted lens holder that he could use and replace from only one side of the door.
