There was talk on the radio here in DC today about the Big East contracting, at least the basketball programs.

They really need to do that. The basketball has suffered for all of the Football schools that were added.

They were talking about the Big East being formed for football, not basketball. And like you said it has way too many teams and though they send a ton of teams to the tourney, they're killing themselves to do it.

I wonder if the issue with the Big East is irreversible at this point. It has now morphed primarily into a basketball conference. There is no avoiding it. Even if the conference contracted, it would still lack Miami, Va Tech, and BC.

West Virginia is not good enough to carry an entire conference and not sure if it is consistent enough to be considered an "elite" football program.

The Big East should embrace its basketball status.

It makes more strategic sense for Irish to align with the Big East for football because it would be an easier path each year to a BCS bowl.

Agreed. It's the uber basketball conference. Its fate could be worse.
