I don't know if it will be next year, but he'll coach at ND one day, IMHO.

It might be once his kids are out of the house. I've heard him mention that he loves being at UF because he can go on all his recruiting trips and still be home for dinner (a result of the talent in the area).

Also, don't underestimate his ego. If *if* he goes to ND and gives them a championship, he knows he will go down as one of the all time greats.

Actually, his wife loved SLC and being close to the ski resorts. The move to Florida was all about Meyer being able to make a bigger name for himself in college football.

And 8BR, I believe there is a clause about no buy out if he goes to ND.

Imagine how he'd be treated having that success at Notre Dame.

It would be a lateral move at best.

            Perhaps.

Still, Notre Dame is Notre Dame.

I believe he has Ohio State on that list also. Meyer grew up in Buckeye territory and coached at OSU for a year if I remember correctly. Ohio State is a unique beast. If Tressel doesn't start winning BCS games in the next couple of years, especially with Pryor, he'll be given the Cooper treatment and run out of Columbus. And while ND has money, so does Ohio State and none of the strict standards. I think he'll end up at OSU before it is all over. Especially if R-Rod proves the spread can work in the Big 10.

                That's a fair point.

Ilpadrino I just heard that the buyout to go to Michigan or Notre Dame is some asinine number like 8 million dollars. His original contract he signed in 2004 stated he could leave for ND with no buyout, his extension is different.

                    Thanks for the updated info.

That may keep Meyer at Florida.

Are you sure? Everything I've read says he doesn't have a buyout in his contract. I don't think that is accurate either, but I don't see anything that suggests it is close to $8 million.

edit....the no buyout is for NFL teams, not college.

According to this article from about a year ago, Meyer has a pretty small buyout.

At Florida, Urban Meyer makes more than $3 million per season but the maximum amount he would have to pay the school should he leave would be about $500,000, athletics director Jeremy Foley said.

"Some people put a big number in there to make it hard for a coach to move," Foley said. "But if a coach doesn't want to be at Florida we shouldn't try to keep him here. We just put that figure in the contract because there could be some costs if the head coach leaves and doesn't take his whole staff. If the coach takes all the staff his buyout could go down to zero."
