SU, heaven knows I've tried, but I'm having a hard time understanding your "formidable" evidence. You point to lots of polls and computer ratings, but none of them, so far as I am aware, ranks teams from different years. I thought the babe that was first runner-up in the '07 Miss USA contest was way foxier than the '08 winner. Your logic seems to suggest that would be impossible.

mpfunk is right, with the possible exception (as CJF mentioned) that the Utes' '08 season was better than their '04, if only because of the surprise factor.

Where did I chip away at Utah's bowl victory? It was a great victory and no one should take anything away from it.

Guess what, you funker, the AP poll, the USA Today poll, every computer including most notably the BSC computers, SAYS YOU'RE WRONG. Do you argue in your trial court briefs that the Supreme Court got it wrong? (You would have a better leg to stand on claiming that Utah was the NC last year in some polls.) You are undisciplined in your arguments and you're undermining that which you ought to defend. You should be disbarred from being a Ute fan, for incompetence, and violating your duty of loyalty.

Apparently this is your bald opinion, no reasoning, no evidence. What was 2009 TCU's final record? How many ranked teams did the 2004 Utes beat (what were they ranked when Utah beat them and in the final poll?)?

Your opinion is worthless. I suggest you delete it becaue it is just taking up bandwidth.

EDIT: meant to say the USA Today, not he UPI poll.
Wait a minute so apparently the polls compare teams between seasons and that it is undisputed that a 2nd rank team from one year is absolutely better than a 4th ranked team from another year?

The 2004 Ute teams didn't beat any ranked teams, but I watched pretty much every game from both the 2004 team and the 2008 team and the 2004 team was the better team. Better players and a better coached team (this isn't a criticism of Whittingham he was part of the reason it was a better coached team: a combo of Meyer/Whittingham/Sanford is absolutely better than Whittingham/Anderson/Ludwig).

I am going to stand corrected though on the best season claim and agree that 2008 was a better season because of the wins over ranked teams and the number 2 ranking, but the 2004 team was the better team.

You could argue that the whole undertaking is silly because they play disparate schedules in different years, etc. But you can't just state an opinion like you just did about the runner up vs. the winner the year before in a beauty pagent (I'm disappointed you watch those shows). That is all funk did.

I'm not just citing to computer polls; any poll ranked the 08 Utes higher than any other team in contention from the MWC. But I don't stop there; I rely on the big factor of post-season results, where the bowl win occurred, who was beaten, the final ranking of the losing team, how many ranked including top 10teams it beat, etc. So, if you want to compare across seasons how else to do it? I guess you could point to MOV (against a weaker schedule). That's less probabative than my evidence, I submit. I submit that if you consider all the rankings, the schedule, who beat whom, etc., the 2008 Utes look better than 1984 BYU. No, it's not perfect, but it never is. My evidence is what it is, and the weight of the evidence favors 08 Utah. It just does.

And the mediator steps in and clears it up. Thank you PAC.

There isn't a way to rank teams from year to year except for personal opinions. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and everyone sees it differently. Everyones opinion is influenced by different things so many times they see it differently. That is what makes these types of discussions fun.

Thank you, I was going to point out that "best season" assertion destroyed your credibility. This doesn't rehabilitate you, though. It just highlights that you're a drinker of Urban's purple kool aid.

I'm exploring the foundation for some people's opinion. Like Socrates used to. I've already gotten funk to admit he was wrong about which team had the best season.

I expect this kind of slander from SU, but coming from you just hurts. You're back on the list!

Was George Bush's 2001 presidential year better than Obama's 2009? 7 of 38 computers think so; but keep in mind that computers believe Germany won WWII.

                          So, moderators, whack the thread!

Look, people do this all the time. Usually they start by looking at who beat whom and rankings.

                              Fair enough.

But are being the best team and having the best season mutually exclusive?
