It's called "trying to sell newspapers" and is not likely to influence the dynamics Flystripper describes. I would put Utah number one also. I think they deserve it (of course I firmly believe BYU deserved its natl. championship as well). I doubt it will happen, however.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

no, for SC to get the split AP title with the BCS.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI appreciate what you're saying but I think you're going to be surprised. How amazing articles like this are still appearing five days later, and in places like Texas!
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/6197818.html
These articles are coming from the actual voters or their colleagues. BTW, FWIW, 3D officially threw in the towel yesterday on USC ranked higher than Utah.
Not for Utah to be ranked higher than SC. I still think that is definitely possible. Then again, unless SC wins the title, I don't really care if SC finishes 4th and Utah 2nd. What does it matter? Nobody is denying that Utah has a great team. For SC, the season fell short of expectations. I think you said it best when you said that for Utah, this season was the greatest thing the school has ever accomplished. I agree with your assessment.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

For those that say that they would put Utah at #1......how do you address the fact that Florida already is #1 and, if it wins its game, you are saying that you would actually drop Florida and replace it with the #7 team? It makes no sense. That is a horrible precedent to set.....go into your bowl game ranked #1, win your bowl game against the #2 team, finish the season ranked #2.Originally posted by creekster View PostIt's called "trying to sell newspapers" and is not likely to influence the dynamics Flystripper describes. DIfferent issue. I think Utah should have been ranked higher going in. They are not. If I had a vote, however, I would vote them as number one.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostFor those that say that they would put Utah at #1......how do you address the fact that Florida already is #1 and, if it wins its game, you are saying that you would actually drop Florida and replace it with the #7 team? You can't handle the truth. What kind of a "horrible precedent?" LOL. This is exactly the subversion the press is after. And I always thought you were such a brilliant insight into pop culture. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I am confused by your first couple of setences and how they relate to the final one. Are you saying that even though Utah was ranked 7 going in and Florida was 1, you would rank Utah 1 and drop Florida...even if Florida wins its bowl game?Originally posted by creekster View PostDIfferent issue. If Utah is more impressive than every team in front of them they should jump from number 7 to number 1. Why are you worried about precedent? Voters should vote for who they believe is best. If after all the games the voters believe that Utah is best, then Utah should jump from number 7 to number 1. It is as simple as that.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostFor those that say that they would put Utah at #1......how do you address the fact that Florida already is #1 and, if it wins its game, you are saying that you would actually drop Florida and replace it with the #7 team? Can you name another time the #1 football team went to the championship game (or its bowl game), won that game, and then lost the championship?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostYou can't handle the truth. Even (those tools) ESPN can.

This sounds shrill; and it's unreasoned. This is great. Then what is the point of being the top ranked team in the country? Why release rankings at all until the final game has been played?Originally posted by Flystripper View PostIf Utah is more impressive than every team in front of them they should jump from number 7 to number 1. If you earn your way to the #1 ranking during the season and defend it in the post-season against the #2 ranked team, why would that possibly be taken away by the same voters that had you ranked as #1 to begin with? That is a horrible precendent. At least I think so.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

There is no other sport like college football where the two contestants in the "championship game" are picked like supreme court justices. Has there never before been a split between the AP and BCS?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSo, no you cannot provide even a single example? When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Yes there has, as I am sure you know.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostThere is no other sport like college football where the two contestants in the "championship game" are picked like supreme court justices. Has there never before been a split between the AP and BCS?
You are being evasive, which I like because it goes to your credibility.
Nobody here is arguing about the impossiblity of a split.
The issue at hand....the AP votes you #1 going into your final bowl game. You are playing against the AP #2. You win that bowl game. Why would you drop in ranking?
You cannot provide any logical answer nor any examples of prior similar doings.
That is my only point here...that what you are suggesting makes no sense and violates all prior precedent. Read your own sig line to see where I stand on whether the Utes deserve the nod.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
