Scott Johnson's hit was legal.

You realize that the BYU won the game, right? I could see bringing this up if it had cost the game for the Cougars, but after a win?
Also, isn't Johnson the guy on the team that has had that called against him in other games? I'm not saying that the officials were targeting him, but if he's the one who has done it before, then he ought to change his tackling technique."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Too narrow of a view. The secret combination will still be there next year, this is the critical point you are missing.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostYou realize that the BYU won the game, right? I could see bringing this up if it had cost the game for the Cougars, but after a win?

I don't remember him getting penalized for this before. Anybody else?Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostYou realize that the BYU won the game, right? I could see bringing this up if it had cost the game for the Cougars, but after a win?

And if BYU had lost, then it would be silly to bring up something like a penalty instead of the many, many legal plays in which the other team beat you. In other words, I don't think a win or a loss is a better or worse reason to gripe.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

Yes, I know it's a point of emphasis. By all means, they should call it when it happens. Not when it doesn't.Originally posted by UtahDan View Postτὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

Well, in my totally non-biased viewpoint from row 18 in section 105, I thought it looked clean in real time . . .Originally posted by UtahDan View PostIn real time, it does look like it is helmet to helmet, no? Fair enough, but the two guys standing right on top of it threw their flags immediately. Don't you are agree with me that this is an acceptable cost of the rule?Originally posted by All-American View PostWell, in my totally non-biased viewpoint from row 18 in section 105, I thought it looked clean in real time . . .

well he obviously didn't hit the guy in the head; the ball was in the receiver's hands and he blasted the ball out of his grip with his helmet, just like every DB is taught. That was immediately obvious to me when the play first happened.
The announcers need to STFU with their speculation and conjecture. "He goes for the head." Really. You know that how? Since he didn't hit him in the head and instead broke up the catch by nailing the ball out of the receiver's hands with his helmet? Brilliant revelation there, Madame Ruby."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Dan, can you explain how you're an authority on football rules and their interpretations?Originally posted by UtahDan View PostLike I said, your problem is with how they are implementing it. Just like any other judgment call, if you do something that looks like the foul you are going to get called for the foul. Common sense. Or maybe it is part of the ongoing secret combination which has been working for decades to job the Cougars. Could be that.
