Does the same hold for wearing Y gear outside of Provo? Are you Picklebutton on an other board?

Hah, aren't we the sensitive one? I proudly wear my Y gear outside Provo, since I live outside Utah. I'm just giving it to BSU; that's what fans do. I wouldn't wear Utah gear anywear! And I ain't Picklebutton; what a stupid name!

I am happy for the MWC. I think some of the CB, UFN, CUF attitude is a little silly. The best 3 teams in the MWC are very good, and for the last few years have been legit top 20 or higher teams. People here tend to overlook that BYU was totally disinterested in the VEG last year when they got beat by an average at best Arizona team, or when the need a blocked PAT to beat the worst team in the history of the P10. But want to make countless posts about how ESPN is so awful for saying P10 teams are disinterested.

I can poke back, when others are poking can't I?

Merry Christmas, I just hope that USC beats BC tomorrow so that the P10 can still be better than the ACC.
It's the veg, not THE VEG.

We had a poll and a majority of BYU fans admitted they were ashamed to wear Y gear outside Provo. 3D said he only did it because he assumes people thinks he went to Yale. The only reason I feel a little funny wearing U gear is that I don't want people to think I live in Utah, or worse, that I'm a Mormon from Utah.

I live in Albuquerque; I have proudly been escorted from the Pit under police escort for my own safety because I had the audacity to wear Y gear to a basketball game and cheer for the Cougs! I fly my Y flag on football days. Any Y fan who is afraid to wear his gear in hostile territory is a wuss. Once in a while I see people wearing Utah gear down here. I am not afraid to give them grief for it (it is a back-handed honor to them since they have the courage to sport their gear). If you've got it, flaunt it!

Should it surprise me that you would be embarrassed to represent your alma mater and would, instead, give too much credence to what "people" may or may not think about you?

You're kinda letting the Mormons "win" if you let your actions be guided by them in some way, aren't you?

I wear my BYU gear here in Virginia.

                    .
In my younger years, I was known to have a general lack of restraint in many things, sports fervor among them. The game in question, we were seated directly across from the UNM student section. I was cheering loudly and really giving it to some students across the aisle. Without any request from me, and after we won the game, some UNM cops came down to me, indicated that they had observed me during the game and felt that it would be best if I walked out with them because they knew I had really struck a nerve with some of the UNM students. I have since mellowed out, although I did get in a shoving match with a Lobo fan at the BYU football game 2 years ago. Even though I am old, my wife is waiting for the day I grow up. She says that I am like a government bond; I take a long time to mature.

This a difficult, shameful issue for me. Thanks for the pep talk.

A few years ago I was in New Zealand for a summer on an externship for law school. While there, I randomly came face to face with a guy in a Utah shirt and I was in my BYU shirt. We exchanged brief salutations and moved on. It was like all those thousands of miles away from home amongst the Rugby crazy sports culture and general unfamiliarity and strangeness, I found a little slice of home but for one fleeting moment. Thank you, rivalry-- you've shown me the time of my life.
