At least the SLC media guys know a lot about the P10. Lots of Sunday games, I am not sure in what sport not hoops or football, or the hoops tourney for men or women. Spot on reporting Wes.

My brother called me last week and said the SLC radio guys were saying that Heimuli would never play because the Ducks were loaded at DT. It was shocking news to me and anyone that knows anything about Oregon football.

Why is it so hard for media people to use facts? There are a lot of reasons why BYU would or wouldn't be invited to the future Pac 12, when you lead with Sunday play you sound like someone that knows nothing about the Pac 10, which probably sums up this guy.

Obviously, zero football games are played on Sundays.

I brief look at the P10 mens hoops schedule this season shows that there were fewer than 15 Sunday games played. Closer to 10 or so, I think.

The NCAA tournament plays zero games on Sunday.

You are correct. Not sure why this issue is always raised.

Do you mean the P-10 tourney?

                yes, whoops.

The NCAA tournament has addressed the Sunday play by putting BYU in a Th-Sat bracket. And the FF and Championship game are not on a Sunday.

If I am not mistaken, was the infamous rugby issue recently worked out, as well?

Which sports' Sunday play would prohibit participation by BYU?

"We can't accept BYU's no Sunday play policy" is a euphamism for "BYU scares us because it's too religious; it gives us the heebeejeebees and always has; we can't deal with clerics spouting the GC intonation calling themselves university presidents, trustees, athletic directors, and football coaches. There is also a little problem with the LDS Church's assassination of gay marriage in California and the racist past that has not been addressed. Sorry, just being honest. We wouldn't feel comfortable with BYU in our conference. No Sunday play, like no research, is more a metaphore than a real problem. It's cultural stupid."

Of course, they would never be so honest.

                  • I can't believe this thread has 247 replies. There always appears to be a compelling reason why expansion/realignment is imminent and why BYU and/or Utah will be a part of it and it never gets close to happening.

                    Yawn.

The thing that always distresses me is that when you google "Pac 10 Colorado" or "Pac 10 Utah" the first hits are always Cougarboard or Block U or that Bleacher rag or some such thing.

I actually see this as being a salient point, but why tiptoe around it? if that were the reason, why not say so (in not such course terms, of course)? It would be hailed within academic circles and likely in many non-academic circles.

In fact, citing to a "No Sunday" hurdle makes them look foolish, as such a concern is readily and easily debunked.

Gay marriage is a losing battle. It won't be an issue forever, and likely sooner rather than later.

I agree they should be more honest. But why not BYU start the honest exchange? It might be quite disarming if BYU said, "Look, we know the real problem here, we want to put your mind at ease. First, about that racist past, we really are sorry about that, it was wrong..." and so on.

Remember, in the past Pac 10 schools have actually boycotted BYU for various reasons and in various contexts.

The difference is the chatter. The current PAC-10 commissioner said ontalk radio in Phoenix in October (?) that the PAC-10 would seriously consider expansion, and that teams like Utah and Colorado would be the teams they would be looking at.

Previous answers to the "are you expanding" question have always been "No."

Then this week, the PAC 10 commish again said that they were considering expansion - and again singled out Utah and Colorado as the types of schools they're looking at.

So Indy, there defintiely IS something different happening right now. The discussion has moved from "No" to "Perhaps Utah and Colorado." That's a huge change...
