SU likely didn't see that article. Google only sends him the pro-Utah ones.

i think he's "wrong wrong wrong!" i hate boston and i hate bob ryan.

that being said, babs said it best yesterday... part of the charm of college football is the never ending debate over the national champ! the bcs sucks, but in a way so too would a playoff b/c the bowl games are fun and many of them (not anywhere all of them) are filled with tradition and history.

it's a complicated thing, to crown a king in college football every year... should it go to the best and most talented, or the team that proved it all on the field by going undefeated and beating 4 very good top 25 teams (fuck bob ryan by not giving credit for the byu and tcu wins... guys is obviously a bcs homer...)

i say utes deserve national title this year.

I watched the Oregon State/Pitt game. The Sun Bowl. I think I remember some announcer saying that the Sun Bowl was the second oldest bowl around besides the GrandDaddy. At halftime of the Sun Bowl, the old Village People came out and the entire stadium tried to set a Guiness World Record for most people doing the YMCA.

At the Vegas Bowl, The Hoff sang the National Anthem.

At the Emerald Bowl, the halftime show included these weird rhythmic dancers with capes.

My point.....there are only maybe 4 or 5 bowl games with any real "tradition" to speak of. Unless, by tradition, you simply mean the fact that they are played every year. By "tradition," I mean a solid history of relevance...big games, big teams, parades, carnivals, pageants, etc..Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange. Maybe a couple more.

College football would be just fine without the Village People at halftime, trust me.

Not fair. After all, he only wore a Utah hat to the game.

Come to think of it, UOhio should have borrowed Goatnapper's Utah hat.

So, why can't them compete and beat Florida, OK on a neutral field? What is his evidence? That is what bothers me...it is easy to say that they can't compete but gives zero reason why except to say that the Tide must not have been focused.

I guess an easier question is this--does anyone think that Alabama would beat Utah more often than not now? Alabama did nothing offensively and couldn't stop the Utes defensively. I can't see the Tide beating Utah regularly.

Should the Utes be National Champions? I won't go that far...but Utah beat 4 top 25 teams this year. Yet, they are discounted because BYU and TCU were among them. If any BCS school had that resume of beating top 25 teams and finished undefeated...that team would be the National Champion without hesitation.

First, if I wanted that information published I would have posted it in a public forum. Second, Goat bought his Ute hat around the same time he had a mancrush on Rick Majerus. I want nothing to do with that.

i love the non-bcs hate that comes from guys like bob ryan. it really pisses me off that he gives no credit for the tcu or byu wins... he probably thinks that the acc is a dominating conference.

i remember reading boston globe stuff when the big east was getting raided by the acc for bc, v-tech, and miami... i was interested b/c syracuse was in the mix... anyway, bc was so full of itself, and the sportswriter was real obnoxious with the crap he said about the orange...

i'm done with boston and it's sports teams. go yankees!

i agree... but, there's a history of having several irrelevant bowl games - not to the extent that we have them nowadays, but certainly it's been a part of the sport for a half century or more.

If someone put a Utah Ute hat on my head, I would probably have a physical response similar to when Sam and Frodo threw the elven rope around Gollum's neck.

It burns us! Nasty, fat Uteses!

Now, if you will excuse me, time for lunch. I think I will have some lembas bread.

If we're talking about who a "savvy bettor" (in Ryan's words) would take on a neutral field, then USC is the National Champ. Even if USC had lost another game (say to Arizona), they may be the Vegas favorite against any other team on a neutral field.

If the Giants had a rematch with the Pats a week after the Super Bowl last season, the Pats would have been a 5-7 point favorite. But you have to determine a champion by results on the field, not hypothetical future results.
