  • Why I hate sports............

BYU loses to Arizona in the Las Vegas Bowl.
BYU loses to ASU on a questionable tip in at the buzzer.
Utah wins the damn Sugar bowl.
Utah beats a ranked Gonzaga team.
    BYU loses to Wake Forest.
    The Dolphins lose to Baltimore.

What a crappy last few weeks its been for me as a sports fan.

I can only imagine what is next, Manti Teo committing to SC tonight? The Spurs team plane crashes on its way to their next game?

Its all cyclical. Thats why you have to make the most of your successes and enjoy them. Not every day is a good day.

Cyclical, indeed. Just last year, UNLV beat Utah 27-0.

True, but it's easier to enjoy the ride if it doesn't crash and burn in the end all because you didn't install Callahan brake pads because they don't have a guarantee on the box.

On weekends like this I have to keep reminding myself how foolish it is to let my happiness and sense of well-being become dependent on the performance of a small group of young men over whom I have zero influence or control.

Of course, the logical approach doesn't always work out so well.

"Cylical" is an oversimplification. North Carolina's dominance of ACC basketball isn't just a cyclical phenomenon. Neither was Utah's final two in basketball or UCLA basketball's ten championships in twelve years or Bear Bryant's epic success at Alabama, or what Pete Carroll is doing at USC. Sometimes a prgram becomes a great tradition; sometimes a team breaks through and does something truly momentous and special.

When I was a kid Weber State basketball (under Dick Motta and Phil Johnson) won the Big Sky every year. It may have had the single greatest dynasty in terms of conference domination I've ever seen. Who remembers that? What Weber did was cyclical. It's an open question whether anyone in the MWC will ever duplicate what Utah this year, including Utah. That's why all those BYU fans saying "what about the last two years, wehre was Utah?" still don't know what hit them. There's a huge qualitative difference.

Now you are getting ridiculous. "Ever"? You probably said the same thing after 2004. Someone probably said it after BSU beat OU. It'll happen again.

The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

Are you describing a cyclical phenonemon here? On the contrary. You are disproving it. I think Utah and Boise have a far better chance of duplicating their own success than anyone else in their respective conferences doing it. There isn't any given cyclicality. Utah and Boise have achieved a break throughs that most mid-major conferences never will achieve. A Fox Sports article I posted yesterday drew obvious contrasts between BYU 1984 and Utah 2008.

Unfortunately, BYU fans have to face the hard truth that they may go to their graves never seeing BYU do what Utah did this year and in 2004. That's a more likely outcome than not.

Oh, now BSU is in the sacred inner circle? Have you forgotten how badly BSU sucked for such a long time?

It has been fun watching Utah get back to the final two again and again. That definitely ranks up there with UCLA's decade of dominance.

You have to forgive SU, he is just pissed that he needlessly renewed his Viagra perscription prior to the Sugar Bowl.

BTW - BSU has never really sucked once they made the jump to D1, but I wouldn't put them up there with the great traditions of college football. Nor would I place Utah there. Utah has done a great thing 2 times in this decade and they deserve major props, but in the historical sense these seasons will be largely forgotten unless they can continue to follow it up.

So since you stated previously that you want "" around the BYU 1984 year, I assume you also want them around the 2008 Utah year?
