I also agree that anyone complaining about the shove is a pussy. As big of a pussy as Max Hall for not speaking his mind before the game and waiting until after it .

I don't dislike Hall and am not really pissed about his actions, but I do think it was a bit wussy of him to wait until after the game to unload when he knew he was never going to see Utah again.
Just so Sly could lose 4 to BYU? Not a good idea.

No so he could even the series. Hey I bet Max would trade one of his wins against Utah for Sly's undefeated season and BcS bowl win.

One thing that is cool about Syl (why does everyone call him Sly?) is his summer job delivering sandwiches at that deli.

I'm being serious, btw. He is proud of his job there and he has never acted embarrassed about having a normal, unglamorous summer job (like most college students). This was a kid that was a shining star at the SUGAR BOWL....he comes back to SLC and delivers sandwiches over the summer. I bet he could have taken some sort of booster job or direct payments from someone....but he chose to work like everyone else and earn his way.

I think that is pretty cool.

I have no issue with Sly at all but he unfortunately has been on the losing end of things against BYU and yes, Funk, Max would love to have a BCS bowl win but since the relevance of both teams this year is reduced to the state of Utah, I'll take the last game win against my rival and so will Max. Sly seems like a good guy who has backed up any talk he's dished out.

Has Sly complained about Max's classy-winner shove? Seems to me he made very classy statements after the game to the news media. Here's a summary of some post-game comments by key people:

                Bronco, whose team won:
"I give Utah a lot of credit. I was very impressed with the way their defense played. I think it was the best defense that's been played against us the entire year," Mendenhall said. "I also give our team credit for the perseverance, the grit and determination and execution at critical times to win the game."

Ute kicker Joe Phillips, whose team lost:
"It's been a dream of mine to play in this game my whole life," Phillips said. "To go out there and be able to go out there and perform well was a dream come true. The outcome wasn't planned. But I was proud of all my brothers on the team and the effort they gave."

                Stevenson Sylvester, whose team lost:
"It's real tough," Sylvester said. "It's one of those rivalry games where we played our asses off and you have to hand it to the team and BYU. I told you it was going to be a spectacular type of ending, I just didn't want it to go that way."

Max, who won the game on the final play:
"I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them — I hate everything about them," said Hall.

"I hate their program. I hate their fans. I hate everything. So, it feel good to send those guys home. They didn't deserve it. It was our time, and it was our time to win. We deserved it. We played as hard as we could tonight, and it felt really good to send them home and to get them out of here, so it is a game I'll always remember."

                . . .

"Do you really want me to go into it? I think the whole university and their fans and organization is classless. They threw beer on my family and stuff last year and did a whole bunch of nasty things. I don't respect them, and they deserve to lose."

I am enjoying watching you guys laboring so hard to justify or minimize Max's bad, awful moment.

LA Ute, why do you have to post the cussing stuff from Syl?

Everyone else was able to express themselves without using profanity. If Syl had a momentary lapse, then fine, but do you have to post it here?

You're going to have a hard time finding any posts in which I do much of anything to convince anyone that what Max said was unfortunate. Everyone really knows that, including, I suspect, you. I'm just having fun responding to the justifiers and minimizers. Again, when I first heard what Max said, I laughed. it was an idiotic thing to say and everyone knows it. The BYU defenses and justifications began almost immediately.

My point stands: It's the most extreme statement of its kind in the history of the rivalry. It will live forever. And you all want to make this about Ute fans, and not about Hall. It's really funny.

I thought about putting in some ***, mainly out of concern for you, but the statement appeared in a family newspaper and I know how strongly people here feel about free speech and censorship.
