Money? Timing? -- have no clue. Let me restate: There's nothing wrong with ND that Urban couldn't fix in 2 years.

I am not saying I don't think Urban wouldn't turn ND around, UM is clearly one of the top 5 coaches in football. I just think the problems might be deeper than NBC/ESPN shows, or he would have taken the job the first time. Wasn't it alleged that ND was his dream job? IIRC he had a special out in his Utah contract for ND.

He had a special out clause for ND, Michigan, and Ohio State...

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Did anyone catch the writeup in SI on UM this week? Pretty good read, and makes me still suspect that ND is his ultimate destination.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Admissions is the reason UM didn't and hasn't taken the ND job yet.

They were accepting Prop. 48 when Holtz was there. When Davies took over they quit allowing those type of athlete/students. All 3 coaches after Lou have taken it in the stones.

The last ND Nat. Champ. team was filled with Prop. 48 players at the skill positions.

University of Florida allows the Prop. 48 student, as do all of the other SEC institutions. If they didn't, they would look like...the MWC.

Is this just a preemptive attempt to save face in case only the toilet bowl offers?

Or to not add to their bowl loss streak.

Holtz was also allowed to get 2 kids every year into Notre Dame that normally wouldn't have gotten in. When the offer was on the table in '04 Meyer asked to be able to get 1 kid in every year. He was told no. So Meyer told them no.

That privilege was taken away when Holtz was finished. Except for 1 or 2 years, Notre Dame has been irrelevant since Holtz.

Holtz now needs to just disappear. Listening to that guy is worse than pulling teeth.

EDIT: These weren't Prop 48 kids either. They were able to play right away.

I'm sure anybody who follows the annual contenders can.

New Mexico had been void of a bowl win since 1961, until two years ago thanks to their being handed a home game against a 6-6 WAC team in the inaugural New Mexico bowl.

As for the current longest streak, I frankly dunno!

I checked and it is indeed the Irish, with all losses since 1994.
