a national title from 25 years ago is in the modern football era? i don't think so. if it was in the last 10 or 15 years, then maybe. utah has had the biggest impact on the modern football era for non-bcs teams than anyone... byu had that opportunity in 2001, but blew it, so utah picked up and took over and got the job done.Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostIt is becoming routine to have a non-BCS team play in a BCS bowl game. BYU is still the only non-BCS team to have won a National Championship in the modern football era. I would rather have a National Champiosnhip than two BCS wins.
Besides, the 1984 National Title would never have happened in the modern football era with BCS, etc... The only reason that TCU is being talked about as a possibility for the NC game is because of the 2008 Utes.

I think it is mostly because TCU is a really good team. The only reason the 2008 Utes are the 2008 Utes is because the TCU kicker had his one bad day in his career on a very fort-UTE-ious night. Well, fortuitous for those in Crimson. I often wonder if he made those chip shots if BYU nation would even have the angst it has and whether or not Max Hall's family would have been so abused and whether Max would have more love in his heart for Utah and BYU fans. When I really think about it, I think that kicker lost humanity's one chance for world peace. Not to put any pressure on him or anything.Originally posted by OrangeUte View PostThe only reason that TCU is being talked about as a possibility for the NC game is because of the 2008 Utes.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

IMO, TCU is being talked about as a good team b/c they are a very good team. but, the utes getting left out of the title game last year as the only undefeated team in the nation has the BCS brass worried about lawsuits, etc (even if they are coyly pretending they aren't, i know enough about litigation to know that it isn't something that wise business-people invite). if it weren't for the utes last year, TCU and the world would be happy with a BCS bowl, but now there is talk about national titles, etc.
