    Fighting Irish is right.

Talk about complete bullshit. If this ever happened at BYU, Bronco may actually have something to complain about.

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was punched in the face by an irate fan outside a South Bend restaurant early Sunday morning and has a swollen eye, a person briefed on the incident said on Monday.
That person said Clausen was "sucker-punched" by a fan as he left an establishment after having dinner with his parents.
The fan allegedly said something to Clausen and/or a female acquaintance.
A South Bend police spokesman said that no police reports were filed over the weekend involving Clausen, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The newspaper also reported that the name of the bar was CJ's and that a bartender at the establishment said that Clausen had been there with family members and other Irish upperclassmen after Notre Dame's loss to Connecticut on Senior Day.
The source told ESPN.com that the injury is not expected to keep Clausen from playing this weekend against Stanford.

I just saw this on ESPN. Unbelievable. And from the classiest fanbase in the world.

Note: Not a knock on their fanbase. I just always found it funny how CB was always so effusive in its praise of ND fans. Every fanbase has its a-holes.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

SC plays the Irish every year. They are SC's biggest rival. Both schools' fanbase deal with each other year in and year out. I would say with zero hesitation that the Irish fanbase is definitely a unique and special group of folks...probably the nicest fanbase of any school that I have visited. I guess you could say that I would be effusive, as well. I can't remember any negative interactions I have had when the two schools play each other.

This guy's actions are obviously unacceptable and shocking, but also extremely atypical for a Notre Dame fan. Given that their fanbase spans the entire country and there are many bandwagoners, quality control goes out the window. But that this happened in South Bend BY an Irish student against their most high-profile player....that blows my mind. I am curious as to the response of the other ND students in the restaurant. I would imagine that his behavior was NOT well-received.
      Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Maybe I didn't communicate this well...It's not that I think ND fans are jerks. I just didn't find them any different from any other fanbase. On my last two trips--UW and OU--my experience was identical to what I had in South Bend--everyone was pretty nice. There was a little ribbing back and forth but it seems like if you stay away from the drunk college-aged crowd, it's all pretty mild. I can't imagine that ND's drunk college-aged crowd is any different from everyone else's, but maybe I'm wrong.
