I heard Lights on the radio the other day, and I tried to think of what other songs I might hear on a rock or top 40 type of radio station that are in triple meter. Piano Man and Breakaway were the only ones that came to me. Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls is mostly in triple meter, but the instrumental breaks switch into duple meter in some sections. Jubilee by Peter Breinholt isn't on the radio; neither is You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone (anymore).

Can anyone think of other songs that still get radio play that are in triple meter?
Here's a couple I'd like to hear more:

    Nice Dream - Radiohead
    Manic Depression - Jimi

As I said I'm not a pianist but I do play some guitar. A driving triple meter is very enjoyable to strum, gets your head bobbin'.

Sorry Jeff (and BITF) for perpetuating this tangent...

Isn't Pink Floyd's 'Money' in some bizarre time signature? 5/4 or 7/4 or something like that? I don't even no how to count off that beat. There are.a couple other program rock songs in weird meters - heart of the sunrise by yes. Not sure of its meter, but it is odd and different from "money"

Emerson Lake and Palmer also had some strange meters. The whole 'pictures at an exhibition ' album (prog rock version of some Russian dude's songs (Mugorski?)) Fanfare for rhe common man also starts off with strange beats, but settles into a normal rythm once the music really starts.

There.s a YouTube video of a live performance of "Pictures...". I used to watch it now and again. Kieth Emerson wore a getup that made him look like a peacock. He sure can play keyboards though...
