Matt Hinton of Dr Saturday made a great observation in his blog: three of the top four Heisman finalists were afterthoughts heading into the season.

That gives me hope the award is less about politics and more about performance*.

(*: performance for an undefeated team in the top 5 of the BCS standings; a brand-name also helps.)

No it doesn't. In a lot of other years, this years finalists wouldn't have been finalists.

That sounds like an indictment of the candidates and not the actual race itself.
