I think the Utes are on the edge of the hump. They built up for a few years before last year, and this yeaer has been stellar. However, while they did lose a ton of talent, they still had a huge amount returning this year. If they can turn out a 9-3 or 10-2 next year then they will have gotten over the hump, and will have to have several down years to go back over the hump the opposite way.

The Cougars on the other hand are sitting flat on the hump as it grows larger and TCU turns into a potential monster and we worry about the Utes getting over ahead of us. Of course, if we win this year (which I expect) that will make 3 of 4 and will also mean that they have one other hump to deal with.

Is that a National CHampionship trophy? Or is it a bowl game trophy? I can't tell from the pic.

It looks different from BYU's national championship trophy, which is why I ask. It looks to me like a bowl game trophy.

I'm not trying to minimize BYU's achievements. There is no doubt it dominated the Reagan years.

Likewise, we will look back at this era as the time the Utes finally starting splitting the series with BYU, won its third or so outright conference championship in 40 years, and also won some bowl games.

These are the golden years, my friend. The halcyon days for Utah football. Enjoy them!

You missed it by a decade. The 90s were the decade the Utes got back to splitting the series. We lead the series this decade, though BYU does have a chance to draw even later this year.

But they are fun days and I have loved every minute of them in the same way I have been able to savor and appreciate many fun events and milestones in my adult life. I also remember the last time BYU achieved something important and since I was a BYU fan at that time I can savor that too, though the memories are a bit faint. I distinctly remember people talking about it and being excited at the ward Christmas party, but my memories of third grade, as I say, have sort of a fuzzy haze around them. But that was, what, 6th grade for you? You probably remember it better.

Weren't BYU fans predicting a dismal year this year for Utah? Something like 7 or 8 wins max?
