  • The Marmonte League...HS football's new SEC

Starting next season, Oaks Christian and St Bonaventure will play football as part of the Marmonte League....home to the mighty Thousand Oaks Lancers, as well as lesser known places like Simi Valley.

This makes the new 10-team Marmonte one of, if not THE premiere HS league in the country.

    http://www.dailynews.com/preps/ci_13620964

With St. Bonaventure having won eight section football titles over 10 years and Oaks Christian having won six in a row, combined with traditional powers Westlake, Moorpark, Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks, the Marmonte League figures to have total respect. The other schools are Agoura, Royal of Simi Valley, Simi Valley and Calabasas.
This is going to be killer. College scouts at every league game.

Maybe its just me, but I don't think anyone should overlook Royal of the Simi Valley in that league. Just when you think they are down and out, they come back and get it done.

Royal and Simi Valley consider each other rivals, if that is any indication of what they have going on over there.

Traditionally, we don't overlook Royal. The Royal game and the Simi game are always trap games.....easy to overlook them while thinking about NP or Westlake the next week. Also, they are great opportunities to practice fun trick plays or let some of the bench players get playing time.

Callabassas now has enough folks to join the mighty Marmonte League? Wasn't it 1-A with Oak Park and the mighty "I wanna be a Nordhoff Ranger" of Ohhhhhhh-HIGH back when we were pegging our Bugle Boys and seeking to make out with all the rich hoes from the Simi V ward at multi Stake dances?

Who cares about football, the mighty Pioneers of Simi High will wipe every other field of friendly strife with your asses. The issue at Simi was that our academic standards were too high, how else could Curtis Marsh do at Utah what he could never do at Simi?

Wasnt Camarillo in the Marmonte league back in our day? Calabasas was never in the Marmonte when I was in HS. calabasas means "pumpkins" in spanish, btw.

Camarillo was a dump...the only HS I have ever seen with cement prison-yard bleachers. But that massive painted scorpion always looked sweet from the 101.

The scorp was JUST changed from this old school version

            to this newer small one.

Thumbs down, although it would be nice to have a bigger pic of the new version to check out the girl at the bottom of the photo.

Camarillo was there. They won the Southern Section CIF championship in football in 1983 or 84. They had those shitty bleachers but the only tarton track in the conference. I watched Erin Gustafson bounce along in those mint green dolphin shorts on that track in my mind when I visited the Jiffy Lube in the late 80's and early 90's. Camarillo was the only Marmonte team that beat Simi High once during Don MacLean's tenure of terror at Simi High. For the record Simi beat 1000 Oaks by an average of 97-51 the six times the Pioneers and Lancers tangled those three years.

lol. that is a low blow. 1000 Oaks. That still bothers me to this day, I don't know why. Funny how things are ingrained in us from our youth. It is like "SC" vs "Southern Cal."

TOHS basketball definitely took a turn for the better in the late 80s, when a multi-sport phenom named Marc Monestime showed up and dominated the gridiron and the hardwood. And the girls locker room! Many myths were confirmed and curiosities satiated during those years, I can tell you....rowrrrr!

All I know is that the future of this league is on shaky ground. The SCV Warriors Bantam team recently waxed the number 1 team from NP, TO, Callabassas, and Agoura.

btw our Bantam team is exclusively 9 year olds this year and the PYFL bantam division is made up of 9-11 year old kids. FUTURE SCV DOMINANCE!!!

Suck on that West Valley LoOsers!

They looked pretty good a couple of years ago beating up De La Salle with some little shifty guido at runningback!

And Valencia this year is awesome. The Cowboys came back to relevance when legendary coach Harry Welch was allowed to return back to the sidelines and had a little kid named JJ DiLuigi running wild.

The Foothill League is arguably one of the best. I'd throw it up against the Marmonte League over the last 3 decades. Hart and Canyon are two powerhouses and Valencia has a few great seasons in recent years. The only thing the Marmonte League has been really dominant in is volleyball. But even then, no one from that league can touch Valencia over the last decade.

True, at least outside southern California. But Simi, TO, and Royal are all volleyball powerhouses. But Valencia has one of the best programs in the country.

The interesting thing about this move is that OC has long been criticized for its weak schedules. I am not sure how much the Marmonte League adds to this argument though. But the Bonnies and OC will add some punch to that league for sure. Those are two good teams. But OC is overrated.
