  • So, I'm watching the Word Track & Field

    Championships on a slow day.

There is some pretty funny stuff.

Women's High Jump is well worth watching. A nutball German and a melodramatic Croatian are making this hilarious.

Also, Bolt set a new WR in the 200. 19.19. Next closest was 19.81.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Interesting that Bolt's WR 19.19 200m pace is nearly identical to his 100m WR pace. An amazing athlete, to be sure.

He's juicing. I have been thinking about this since the 100m run the other night and reading the article about him on ESPN. 5 members of the Jamaican national team were recently caught doping. The team doctor is also the same guy who controls their doping tests. Talk about a conflict of interests there. I think it's just a matter of time before he's busted. The Jamaicans have made ridiculous strides. Several of their athletes are running PRs eclipsing their marks by huge margins from just the previous year. They don't have great training facilities there. I think the doctor "busts" a few people to make them look legitimate. Victor Conte and Carl Lewis have accused them of doping.

I thought this was a pretty decent column on the subject:

Pretty good. Sums up my thoughts. I admit watching him run is captivating. I hope he's not doping. But what he is doing is otherworldly. He is destroying records. And all of the Jamaicans are doing it as well across different events.

Another thing, his 100m WR the other night was into a headwind. 9.58 into the wind? Are you kidding me? His other wins this year were in a driving rain and a freak cold snap. He is running away from his competitors in these conditions, not just barely winning. It's unreal. Their team doctor blamed the US for the people on their team that were busted. He said that Jamaicans that dope, learn it while running in college in America. They don't learn it or dope if trained in Jamaica.

It's a shame that the French women don't celebrate track wins like the French men do.

Ukraine had no idea France was coming. She practically coasted in that last 5 meters.

If you haven't seen the women's steeplechase final from yesterday, you should watch it. The whole race. Absolutely incredible from start to finish. I won't post any spoilers but my whole family was jumping up and down on the last lap...

Thanks. I was spooking for a video of the race. The look on Frereichs' face after the finish is priceless.
