IMO, the only choice if Smith and Hill are close. I think Hill deserves the benefit of the doubt given his record as a starter. I also don't think Smith is a bust by any means. He's had a rough go of it in SF, and I'd love to see him turn it around. But until Hill proves otherwise, I think it is his job to lose. How tight the leash is though, depends on Smith's play in practice and the pre-season.

Coffee was a nice 2nd day pick for the Niners. They needed someone productive to platoon with Gore and Coffee was certainly that last year in a very tough SEC. He looked pretty good last night.
Between a stress fracture and being a grade A knucklehead, I was extremely disappointed that the Niners picked Michael Crabtree. Drum, you are giving Smith too much credit. Reggie Smith picked off Kyle Orton and returned it to the 5. Yes, Smith made a throw to an open receiver for a TD, but he didn't lead the team down the field for a score. Honestly, as much as I liked the Crabtree pick, part of me wished Green Bay took him and we were able to grab BJ Raji. Once Raji and Monroe were gone, Crabs was the only guy that really made sense in my mind. I think Crabtree can give San Fran a legit weapon as a WR. I've been disappointed though with the way he has handled his contract situation. You were picked 10. You may be the best player in the draft, but take the money that comes with the #10 spot and realize that you'll make more your first year in the NFL than a good portion of people in the country will make in their lifetime. This is my biggest gripe about Goodell and the NFL. They need to get these rookie salaries under control. It is killing the league just as much as all these thugs in the press are IMO.
