(Baseball) Games You've Attended

One of my favorite sites on the web is http://www.retrosheet.org which has the box score from every single game dating back several decades. This site has just about everything imaginable for the baseball fan---box scores, stats galore, from current and defunct franchises. Just a great site for a baseball fan.

Here, for example, is the first ever Giants game I remember attending

This was actually the first half of a doubleheader that day (the Giants took 2 from the Cubbies that day). Huge crowd that day, as it was a rematch of the two teams that played in the NLCS the previous year. I don't remember there being five errors in the first game (I was all of about 9 years old), but Kevin Mitchell homered and then before I knew it, he was a Seattle Mariner. (I thought he had been traded during the '90 season instead of the '92 season.)

So if you dare, find and post some of the games you remember, or just any stat or score you find interesting.

My first MLB game:
06-20-1995: Royals @ Angels

I remember Lee Smith reaching some sort of milestone this game.

My first Cardinals game:
04-09-1998: Cards @ Rockies

My most recent Cardinals game (Larry Walker's first game in Coors as an opposing player; Also got to see Pujols hit a HR):
9-24-04: Cards @ Rockies

And the two games I got to see at Yankee Stadium:
4-14-04: Rays @ Yankees

04-09-05: O's @ Yanks
(Randy Johnson got lit up, Sosa went 0-4, and we left with Baltimore up 5-3 in the bottom of the 7th. Yanks won 8-5.)

I'm 90% certain this was my first MLB gane attended, but it was so long ago. I do know Valenzuela was pitching and it was in August and I was eight y.o. It was with my cub scout baseball team. We were in the cheap seats, and the guys sitting next to us got booted for smoking herb.

My uncle had season Giants tickets growing up, my Dads company had season A's tickets. I have been to more games then I can remember.

I was at the game where Dave Justice blasted the longest home run in candlestick history surpassing Kevin Mitchell.

I also witnessed a 1 hitter by Tom Glavine.

The biggest game I ever attended and I was 3rd base line 4 rows up was Rickey Henderson stealing 939.

I never saw any games of big time importance....I was going with a friend to downtown PHX to scalp Game 7 World Series Tickets between the Dbacks and Yanks.....when my (now ex-wife) said she'd disown me if I spent 500 bucks on a scalped.....so I didn't go inside.

Anyway...I've only been to 4 major league games...of which I must repent, but I've always enjoyed myself.

I've seen:

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks

Royals vs. Angels

Rays vs. Rockies

Yankees vs. Mariners.

The only way I remembered the first Giants game I attended was because it was a strange scheduled doubleheader against the Cubs--the two teams that played in the previous year's NLCS. It was also one of those rare days at Candlestick where the weather was actually tolerable.

Wow. All of a sudden I feel the need to repent and count my blessings. I am truly lucky to live so close to 3 MLB teams. I have been to 5 or 6 games....this season.

The great thing about baseball.....always easy to get a SUPER cheap ticket at the last minute. I live about 15 minutes from the A. I feel like a traitor going there, but since I am not really rooting for the Halos, I don't mind. I just love going to games. This weekend the Yankees are in town, so it would be a fun series to check out.

I live about an hour from the Ravine and have conned my wife into enjoying summer evenings at Dodger Stadium. It is a fun date night. Our anniversary is next week and we may take in a Dodger game and go out to dinner. At least that is what I am considering as a suggestion (might have to think that one though, actually).

We will also trek down the 70 minutes to Petco once or twice a season when the Blue head down on a roadie. Those are barely away games because so many Dodger fans show up. Petco is a beautiful park and so close to the Gaslamp.

I was just joking with Junkie....probably good that none of us live near each other. I'd quit work and looking for excuses to go to games all the time with everyone.

No plans. It's been 8 months since I've flown. It is weird. Zero Marriott points this year. I have not had a year with less than 180 Marriott stays in the last 5 years. This year a big fat zero. So no work plans and no personal plans to be in LA any time soon.

A Fernando vs. Seaver pitching matchup isn't too bad for a kid's first MLB game.

If I lived in a city that had a MLB team I'd go more.

Granted I live in Mesa for 2 1/2 years and only went to one Dbacks game, so maybe I wouldn't,,,but I was also married back then commuting 90 minutes each way everyday and once I'd get back home, I wouldn't feel like getting back in the car for another commute to downtown PHX.
