Blackouts don’t have nearly as much to do with sold out games as we think they do. Bottom line, when ATT bought the rights to broadcast the VGK games, they bought the rights to exclusive local coverage through the first round. They don’t want you watching the NBC feed when there is still a local feed with rights to broadcast the game.

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

You will have to make a trip to Utah to get it and it may require standing in line as well. Plus, you will probably only have at most a few days notice when it is going to be released. SJBH

I'll have one of my people do it.

Where it belongs. Last night was wonderful, and knowing history will not likely repeat itself, I will take what we can get. It's been 34 years since BYU won the football championship so I realize if the Knights win this year, it will be due to having a great draft, a fabulous coach and goalkeeper. I enjoy the speed of play, Fleury in the crease, and the overall energy.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

On to the third round. I can't predict a victory against the Jets, but it's bee a fund ride.

and having the expansion rules changed by the NHL to favor its new team. It was a good change but the level of talent made available to Vegas at the expense of other teams was unprecedented.

I'm not complaining either, but the rules were set up for Vegas to be a good team. Vegas also did a really good job in building their team.

I have no idea what the rules were, but I think doing what you can to make an expansion team good quickly is a very good idea, regardless of the sport. You need to get the new city excited and tied in with the team as soon as possible so that will support the team in the long term and so they don't create a legacy of sucking that can be hard to get rid of. Look at the Charlotte Bobcats and the Memphis Grizzlies.

                    • Did any of the hockey talking heads predict that Vegas would make the playoffs after the expansion draft? Genuine question. I don't remember anything like that being discussed back a year ago when they drafted.

Then why do the Knicks always suck?

I don't know about talking heads but I expected them to make the playoffs. I may of had this conversation with Funk in one of the NHL threads where we talked about the expansion draft and who we could protect. I definitely had this conversation with the the hockey guys I am friends with off the board.

It is a good thing. I think the NHL set it up perfectly and Vegas management didn't drop the ball. Its a good thing for the league and the sport, but it isn't very comparable to other expansion teams in the NHL or in other sports for that matter. It doesn't take away from what they are doing which is incredibly impressive. All I am saying is that the part of the narrative touting that it is so impressive because they are an expansion team, while true, it isn't really comparable to other expansions teams, which is a good thing. Other sports need to take a look at how the NHL set up the expansion draft and take note.

In some discussions about this, I note the distinction between Vegas being the only expansion team whereas in many expansions there are usually two expansion teams which dilutes the talent available. Whatever the reason I am happy to see how it is binding the community to the team. I hope other leagues consider how to make expansion teams more competitive immediately instead consigning them to suckitude for a decade or two.
