  • ESPN kills off Grantland

This is a sad day for quality sports writing. I'm hoping that most of the writers get picked up. Keri is a great baseball writer going back to his days as Baseball Prospectus. I've been really impressed by the quality of the hockey writing. It isn't often that hockey is given that type of treatment by a site. IMO, Zach Lowe is the best basketball writer out there.

Deadspin obviously was the best place to go to see what ultimately happened. It sure sounds like Simmons trying to get back at ESPN had a hand in this thing. Here is hoping that Simmons actually steps up and brings in most of the writers with his new venture.

Now who is going to drive transgender golf club designers to commit suicide!

Grantland was a good website but the hyperbole across the Internet is a bit much. Lot of drama over a site that most people didn't regularly check.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Careful...Bill Simmons might come after you like he has Roger Goodell.

Is Bill still alive? I was wondering about his dad, House, JBug, blackjack and 90210 recently, hadn't seen any updates.

He has a new podcast. It's mainly been him doing guess the lines with Cousin Sal, my least favorite of his podcasts.

He's producing a documentary on Andre the Giant for HBO as one of his new projects. Spoiler alert: Andre could drink with the best of them, but he was also a gentle man. The only reason Hulk slammed him at Wrestlemania III is because Andre allowed it.

I'm going to miss his sports rankings that use quotes that I don't understand how they relate to sports from movies I haven't seen.

Obviously HFN is more than a casual fan or he wouldn't know that much detail about Bill. Which makes it less funny.

DDDs post is stuff a casual Simmons fan would know, which makes it more funny.

You can't crack on a guy and his subject matter when you clearly are a fan of his.

I loved The Sports Guy, once he started getting on TV and Grantland I found him repetitive and not as fun to read. Haven't intentionally sought him out since the book about the Red Sox winning the World Series.

I will absolutely watch an Andre the Giant doc though.
